Kristin Little, a 39-year-old real estate agent from Prescott, Arizona, tragically lost her life on August 16, 2024. Her vehicle veered off Thumb Butte Loop Road in the Prescott National Forest, plunging 1,000 feet down the mountainside. Little was ejected halfway down and did not survive the accident, but her beloved dog, CJ, was found uninjured at the crash site next to her body.

Due to the rugged terrain and darkness, her body could not be retrieved until the following morning. Yavapai County Search and Rescue stayed with her body throughout the night.

Little’s mother, Jinger Cutting, expressed deep gratitude for the dedication of the Yavapai Search and Rescue Team, acknowledging their commitment to staying with her daughter all night to ensure she was not left alone. She also attributed the quick response of rescuers to Kristin’s smartwatch and her participation in the Yavapai County emergency notification system, noting that without these measures, it could have taken days to locate her daughter.

CJ, Little’s cherished dog, was brought home to Kristin’s parents by Yavapai County Sheriff’s Deputy Miller, who the family praised for his care and dedication during the aftermath. The family also expressed gratitude to Deputy Abel Sanchez, who had the difficult task of notifying them about Kristin’s accident, and Sgt. Horn maintained constant communication with them during the recovery efforts.

Little’s family described her as an adventurous spirit, with her mother remarking that “adventure was her middle name.”  On the last day of her life, she was doing what she loved most – spending time outdoors with CJ. Her parents added she had a way of making every room she entered feel more vibrant and uplifting. “Kristin was the light of my life,” said her mother.

Little had a successful career in real estate in Prescott, yet her true passion often led her outdoors, where she would explore the area’s trails and lakes. Her mother fondly recalled the many hikes they shared, frequently meeting up downtown or at the office before exploring Thumb Butte or the nearby lakes.

Her father, John Cutting, reflected on their shared adventures, including side-by-side vehicle trips with friends, highlighting Kristin’s constant desire for new experiences.

In the wake of her passing, the family has found solace in the community’s overwhelming support, reflecting Little’s impact on those around her. Plans are underway to celebrate her life, to be held outdoors in one of her favorite spots. Looking ahead, the family hopes to create a foundation in her name, dedicated to supporting rescue efforts and preserving the adventurous spirit that defined her life.
