Vice President Kamala Harris expressed her gratitude for superstar Taylor Swift’s endorsement, acknowledging the influence of the artist’s support. In a recent interview, Harris stated, “I’m so very grateful to all the artists who have understood the stakes of the election and have endorsed my candidacy.” Harris, 59, added that she felt “very honored” to have Swift’s endorsement following the first 2024 presidential debate.

Swift, who has over 283 million Instagram followers, made her endorsement of Harris public on social media, stating that she will be voting for Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, in the 2024 presidential election. “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz… because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” Swift posted.  The pop music superstar added that she views Harris as a capable and talented leader, expressing her belief that the country can achieve significantly more under a calm and composed leadership.

The Harris campaign welcomed the endorsement as a significant boost, particularly among younger and first-time voters. Harris highlighted the importance of artists like Swift, expressing her gratitude for their willingness to speak up. The Harris-Walz campaign began selling, and selling out of friendship bracelets—a nod to Swift’s fan culture—to engage supporters and energize voters

Swift has become more politically vocal in recent years. While she once avoided taking sides in U.S. politics, her stance shifted after the release of her documentary “Miss Americana” in 2020. During the 2020 election, Swift endorsed President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris, transforming her into a more outspoken advocate for Democratic candidates and policies.

Swift praised Walz, highlighting his support for LGBTQ+ rights and women’s reproductive freedoms, which have been key issues in her advocacy. She also stressed the need to address misinformation, expressing concern over AI-generated images that falsely linked her to former President Donald Trump’s campaign. Swift called for honesty and transparency in the political process to counter these dangers.

Despite the excitement from the Harris campaign and Swift’s supporters, the endorsement faced criticism from Trump, who has a long-standing contentious relationship with the singer. Following Swift’s public support for Harris, Trump remarked that he preferred Brittany Mahomes, the wife of NFL star Patrick Mahomes, and mentioned that he was never a fan of Swift. He later intensified his criticism by posting, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” on Truth Social in reaction to her endorsement.
