Police underwater search teams recovered a body in the River Derwent, believed to be Victoria Taylor, 34, a nurse and mom who disappeared near Malton, North Yorkshire, England on September 30, 2024.
Assistant Chief Constable Wayne Fox announced the discovery during a press conference at Fulford Police Station in York.
The recovery occurred at approximately 11:45 a.m. on October 22 in an area close to where Taylor’s personal belongings were previously found.
Formal identification has not occurred yet. Nonetheless, Victoria’s family has been notified about the devastating news.
Last week, Taylor’s sisters, Emma and Heidi, expressed that they were at a loss for words to convey their feelings because they were constantly evolving.
Surveillance footage documented Taylor’s final known movements on September 30. She left her home, which she shared with partner Matthew Grant Williams and their two-year-old daughter, at 9 a.m., appeared on camera at a BP garage on Welham Road in Norton, Malton at 11:35 a.m., and was recorded at Malton bus station on Railway Street at 11:53 a.m. The last sighting showed her walking toward a play park on Riverside Walk at 12:30 p.m.
North Yorkshire Police deployed extensive resources in the search operation, including diving teams and sonar equipment. The discovery of Taylor’s baseball cap and rucksack near the river led investigators to consider the possibility she had entered the water.
The case generated significant community involvement, with nearly 11,000 people joining online groups to follow updates.
Local businesses in Malton and Norton displayed missing person posters throughout the search period, demonstrating the communities’ involvement in efforts to locate Taylor.
The police investigation continues as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the case.
