A 29-year-old Instagram model, Yuliana Castillo Sánchez, was shot and killed in broad daylight while waiting for an Uber to take her to her daughter’s birthday party. The fatal shooting took place on Saturday, September 28, 2024, in Granadilla, a district within the San José province of Costa Rica, according to local news outlets.
Authorities reported that Castillo was approached by two men on a motorcycle, leading to a confrontation. As the encounter progressed, one of the men opened fire, fatally shooting her. The gunmen quickly fled the scene after the shooting. She was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medical personnel.
At the time of the incident, Castillo was heading to celebrate her eldest daughter’s eighth birthday. She leaves behind her two children, the eight-year-old daughter and a four-year-old son.
The victim had a significant online presence, with over 13,000 Instagram followers, and worked on the “Fansly” platform in the adult content industry. She had dedicated herself to providing for her children and creating a better future for them.
In an emotional tribute, one family member described Castillo: “As a mother, she was unconditional. Everything she did was to give her children a better future and not depend on anyone.”
A possible motive behind the shooting remains unclear. A family member speculated that the shooting might have been part of a robbery attempt, as Castillo’s personal belongings were missing from the scene. However, authorities have yet to confirm this theory or identify any suspects in the case. No arrests have been made and investigations are still ongoing.
Castillo’s two children are now in the care of her mother, who expressed profound grief at the loss of her beloved daughter.
The police continue to follow leads and are calling for witnesses to come forward with any information that could assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
