Michael Kelcourse, popularly known as Patricia Altschul’s butler on the reality TV show “Southern Charm,” has died in Sarasota, Florida at the age of 71.
Luzanne Otte, a close friend of Kelcourse, confirmed his death on his Caring Bridge website. She attributed his demise to complications arising from a spinal cord injury and stroke, according to a statement.
In February 2021, Kelcourse experienced an acute spinal cord stroke that resulted in paralysis from the chest downwards. Consequently, he retired from the Bravo reality series and moved to an assisted living facility in Florida.
Earlier this October, Kelcourse had a second stroke, which caused partial paralysis on his right side and left him speechless. However, he maintained mental sharpness and functionality in his left hand.
Patricia Altschul, his employer in Charleston, South Carolina, maintained a strong bond with him throughout his health struggles. She visited him in Florida in December of last year, documenting their reunion on social media.
Kelcourse marked his 71st birthday on October 13, only a few days before his death. During his final days, he was surrounded by family and friends who read to him birthday cards and messages from an extensive fan base.
Despite his health issues, Kelcourse remained positive, focusing on his blessings rather than his challenges. His mood only changed when he was moved to hospice care in June.
In the following weeks, Altschul and other loved ones plan to remember Kelcourse on social media. His final Instagram post from October 2023 serves as a memorial where fans continue to express their condolences.
