A 33-year-old Brooklyn, New York City woman was found murdered at an exclusive Hamptons wellness resort on Monday, October 28, 2024, with police launching a homicide investigation at the luxury property.
Artist Sabina Rosas’s body was discovered by an employee in a guest room at the Shou Sugi Ban House in Water Mill, New York, around 12:30 p.m. on October 28, Suffolk County Police Department responded to what they initially called a “suspicious death” at the upscale retreat.
“The woman was a victim of violence,” police stated, though they have not released specific details about her injuries or cause of death. The Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
The Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad, leading the investigation, believes this was a targeted attack. “There is no immediate danger to the public, and the incident appears to be isolated,” investigators confirmed.
The Shou Sugi Ban House, established in 2019, is described as a “private sanctuary and gated compound” spanning over five acres. The property features 13 private guest studios, each approximately 400 square feet, equipped with king- or queen-size beds, soaking tubs, gas fireplaces, and private garden patios. The resort offers wellness workshops and personalized nutrition, movement, and mindfulness retreats.
The resort’s standard nightly rate starts at $1,000, with their “signature romance package” priced at $1,250. The establishment is “a space inspired by the principles of wabi-sabi and wellness traditions that value the simple beauty and healing properties found within the natural world.”
Water Mill, New York, the town where the murder occurred, is generally known for its affluent community and low violent crime rates, which is partly due to its small population and tight-knit nature. East Hampton is nearby and has a low violent crime rate. However, property crimes, such as theft and burglary, are more prevalent in both areas, making Water Mill a peaceful but not crime-free locality.
Police are actively seeking information related to the case. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Suffolk County Police Homicide Division or Crime Stoppers.
