A Mercedes-Benz sedan’s refusal to yield during a routine traffic stop resulted in three deaths and one injury early Sunday morning, October 27, when the vehicle became airborne over railroad tracks and crashed.
Georgia State Patrol troopers initiated a traffic stop at 1:05 a.m. after observing the white Mercedes-Benz traveling at 75 mph in a 40-mph zone along Dawson Road in Albany, Georgia.
The driver turned onto Magnolia Street as troopers attempted to stop the vehicle. Despite activated emergency lights and sirens, the Mercedes-Benz continued southbound, accelerating at dangerous speeds.
The vehicle became airborne after crossing railroad tracks at high speed before crashing. When troopers arrived at the crash site, they discovered the driver inside the vehicle with head and facial injuries.
After speaking with the injured driver, officers located three male passengers who had been ejected from the vehicle during the crash. Emergency responders pronounced all three passengers dead at the scene. The driver received medical transport to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.
Law enforcement officials discovered loaded firearms inside the vehicle during their investigation.
The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team has taken charge of the ongoing crash investigation. Officials have not released the identities of the deceased passengers or the injured driver.
