Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president on Wednesday, October 30. He shared a video that highlights racial rhetoric from the Trump campaign while emphasizing family values as his motivation.
“When I think about my kids and family, the choice is clear,” James wrote in his endorsement.
The NBA’s all-time leading scorer shared a 75-second video compilation that featured clips of former President Donald Trump’s speeches, including comments about immigrants and minorities, alongside images from the Civil Rights movement. The video, produced by Holland West Productions, has garnered nearly 16 million views as of Friday morning.
James’s endorsement adds to his history of supporting Democratic presidential candidates, having previously backed Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton in 2016, and Joe Biden in 2020. The basketball star has maintained an active role in political advocacy, founding the voting rights organization More Than A Vote in 2020. It focused on combating voter suppression and helping Floridians with outstanding fees and fines associated with their felony convictions to register to vote.
The endorsement comes as both campaigns leverage celebrity support heading into the election. While Harris has secured backing from prominent athletes and entertainers, including Magic Johnson, Steph Curry, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, and tennis icon Billie Jean King, Trump’s campaign has garnered support from retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre and other sports figures. Rappers Cardi B, GloRilla, and Flo Milli are scheduled to appear at a Harris rally in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
If successful in her presidential bid, Harris would become the first woman and the first Black woman to serve as president. Her campaign has been particularly focused on strengthening support among Black men, a demographic that some of her advisers believe may be increasingly supporting Trump.
