A 24-year-old bride-to-be was killed in Guatemala when mechanical failure from a passing truck led to a motorcycle crash that also left her fiancé seriously injured, just days before their planned wedding ceremony.
Madelyn Rosely Caracun Perez and her fiancé, Davilson Gesell Canimac Miranda, 29, were distributing wedding invitations by motorcycle in Chicacao, located in Guatemala’s Suchitepequez department, when the incident occurred on December 4.
According to local authorities, a mechanical malfunction caused a transmission component to break free from a nearby truck, striking the couple’s motorcycle. Perez was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, while Miranda sustained serious injuries requiring immediate hospitalization.
The couple had been planning to exchange vows on December 14, 2024. Family members gathered at the crash site to pay their respects, and are now calling on authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Community members are organizing efforts to assist the affected families with mounting expenses. A fundraising initiative is being planned to help cover Miranda’s ongoing medical care and Perez’s funeral arrangements.
Local law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into the truck’s mechanical failure and are working to determine the sequence of events that led to the component becoming detached. The driver’s identity and the company operating the vehicle have not been released to the public.
Miranda remains under medical supervision, with doctors continuing to monitor his condition. Family members have requested privacy during this period while maintaining their calls for a complete investigation into the incident.
