FOX Honors Trump During Surprise Appearance

President-elect Donald Trump was honored with Fox Nation’s “Patriot of the Year” award at the sixth annual Patriot Awards ceremony held at the Tilles Center for Performing Arts in Brookville, New York on Thursday, December 5, 2024. The event, which celebrates America’s unsung heroes, marked a notable moment in the evolving relationship between Trump and Fox News.

The Patriot Awards, established by Fox Nation, aim to recognize and honor individuals who have demonstrated exceptional patriotism, including military veterans, first responders, and inspirational everyday heroes. This year’s ceremony drew approximately 2,000 attendees, many adorned in patriotic attire and “Make America Great Again” gear, reflecting the event’s spirited atmosphere.

The evening commenced with a live rendition of Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA,” a song synonymous with Trump’s campaign rallies. Following the performance, Trump accepted the award designed to resemble the American flag.

In his acceptance speech, he reflected on his recent electoral victory and the progress made during the transition period. “I think you have seen more happen in the last two weeks than you’ve seen in the last four years, and we’re not even there yet,” Trump remarked, referencing discussions with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum regarding border security and drug trafficking.

Fox News host Sean Hannity, a longtime friend of Trump, emceed the ceremony. Hannity stepped in after Pete Hegseth resigned to accept the nomination for defense secretary. Hannity described the honorees as “an eclectic blend of people” who “deserve recognition,” emphasizing the importance of honoring “unsung heroes and real patriots” who contribute to the nation’s greatness.

Among the honorees was General Dick Cody, recognized for his hurricane relief efforts during Hurricane Helene. The event also paid tribute to Stephanie Diller, widow of NYPD Detective Jonathan Diller, who was killed in the line of duty. Accepting the “Stephen Siller Back the Blue” award on behalf of her late husband, Stephanie expressed gratitude for her family’s support during their darkest times.

High school student Cameron Blasek was honored for his patriotic American flag display. At the same time, whistleblowers Paula Pedene and Dr. Sam Foote were recognized for exposing issues within the Department of Veterans Affairs. Actor Kirk Cameron received acknowledgment for his defense of traditional family values, and Clarence McCallister was honored for heroically stopping a gunman at a church. The University of North Carolina’s Phi Delta Theta fraternity brothers were also recognized for protecting the American flag during campus protests.

The award to Trump signifies a shift in his relationship with Fox News. Following a defamation lawsuit settlement over claims about the 2020 election, the network had previously distanced itself from the former president. However, Trump praised the “incredible people at Fox” during his acceptance speech,” indicating a renewed camaraderie.

The ceremony interwove patriotic and political elements, featuring a video montage of Fox personalities and vibrant audience engagement. Despite technical difficulties with the event’s live stream due to high demand, the evening successfully honored individuals who embody the spirit of patriotism and service.
