Podiatric surgeon and Fox News medical expert, Dr. Kelly Powers, passed away at her residence in Colts Neck, New Jersey on December 1, 2024, following a four-year battle with brain cancer. She was 45 years old.
Born in Yonkers, New York, Powers was diagnosed in 2020 with glioblastoma, a particularly aggressive form of brain cancer. Her medical journey involved numerous brain surgeries, along with radiation, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy.
Despite her health issues, Powers continued her successful medical practice while frequently appearing as a medical commentator on Fox News shows such as “Red Eye, Fox & Friends,” and “The Willis Report on Fox Business.” She also offered her expertise on CNN, NBC, and CBS.
According to her obituary, “Kelly was an accomplished doctor and surgeon who held several spotlights on TV and magazines. Most important to her was her family.”
Powers held a master’s degree from the University of San Francisco and completed her residencies at Georgetown University and Boston University. She offered insightful commentary on the COVID-19 pandemic, including updates on virus developments and vaccine research.
Powers had previously encountered a health scare while live on “Fox Business,” suffering heart failure during a segment about heart health. “It’s crazy – I went into heart failure while doing a report on Fox Business – live – on heart health and talking about the subtle signs that women often miss. You can’t make this up,” she later told Preferred Health Magazine in an interview.
Despite her health challenges, Powers and her husband, Steven Doll, welcomed their son Bennett in 2021 through surrogacy. Following her initial successful cancer treatment, she described herself as “the luckiest unlucky girl.”
When her cancer reappeared in 2024, friends organized fundraisers to support experimental treatments in Germany that weren’t covered by her insurance.
Medical experts predict a 72% surge in glioblastoma cases by 2050. The increase is linked to an aging population, increased exposure to pollution, toxic chemicals, and medical imaging.
Alongside her medical career and television appearances, Powers had a wide range of hobbies that included gardening, surfing, ballet, biking, running, horseback riding, and traveling.
A funeral service was held Friday, December 6 at 11 a.m. at Tower Hill Church in Red Bank, New Jersey. She leaves behind her husband, son, parents, and in-laws. The family has requested that in lieu of traditional offerings, donations be made to Stache Strong, a nonprofit dedicated to brain cancer research.
