Teen Dead, 6 Injured in Shooting at Mansion Party

A shooting at a crowded mansion party in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles early Sunday, February 9, left a 16-year-old dead and six others injured after a suspect opened fire following an altercation at the property, triggering an extensive manhunt.

The violence erupted shortly before 1:30 a.m. at an upscale residence in the 5900 block of Winnetka Avenue, where an estimated 200 to 300 people had gathered. The property, listed on Booking.com as a “New Construction-LA Mega Mansion,” commands nightly rates of $2,100 and sits at the end of a winding hillside driveway between Hatteras and Oxnard streets.

According to Los Angeles Police Department investigators, the incident began in the mansion’s basement. “The suspect was somewhere in the basement of the home when an altercation occurred,” said LAPD Lieutenant Guy Golan. “A bouncer or security guard was escorting the suspect out of the home, and when they reached the first floor, the suspect opened fire at the dance floor.” He reportedly fired multiple shots, creating panic among the hundreds of attendees before fleeing the scene. He remains at large.

The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased victim as Sah-Dell Roberts, 16, who succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds at the scene. The other victims, all Hispanic men aged 19, 21, 25, and two 34-year-olds, were transported to various hospitals in stable condition, according to police reports.

The shooting sparked chaos at the luxury home as hundreds of partygoers fled for safety. Video footage captured panicked attendees fleeing in all directions, with some running down steep hills into neighbors’ yards to escape the gunfire. Multiple witnesses reported people climbing over fences and rushing through neighboring properties in their attempt to flee the scene.

Rage Parties, the event’s organizer, posted on social media that one of the company’s founders and a security team member were hospitalized. “We have a lot of people to interview; we’ve identified a bunch. We need to go to the hospital to follow up with the victims to find out what they know,” Golan told Eyewitness News.

While the mansion is known to host events, local law enforcement hasn’t considered it problematic. “Maybe a couple of radio calls in the past, but nothing like this,” Golan explained to KTLA. The gathering was described as a “flyer party,” an event typically promoted through social media that can draw unexpectedly large crowds.

By 8 a.m. Sunday, LAPD detectives were still meticulously processing the scene for evidence. Those who attended the party told Eyewitness News that multiple security cameras are installed throughout the mansion, which could provide crucial evidence in identifying the suspect who remains at large.

“There were approximately 200 to 300 partygoers here, and some sort of altercation occurred, which resulted in multiple shots being fired,” Golan said. The investigation became more complex as officers worked to gather statements from the numerous witnesses who had scattered during the chaos.

The LAPD’s Valley Bureau Homicide Division leads the investigation, focusing on physical evidence and eyewitness accounts. Investigators are particularly interested in reviewing security camera footage and any cell phone videos that may have captured the incident. Police started to corral party-goers and gather statements within minutes of arriving at the scene.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department immediately.
