Prince Harry and Meghan Slammed by Fans After VIP Appearance

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle found themselves at the center of a social media firestorm after attending game four of the 2025 World Series at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday, October 28, where they sat front row wearing Los Angeles Dodgers caps while Canada’s Toronto Blue Jays competed against the home team.

The couple, who live in Southern California with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, occupied prime seats behind home plate and in front of Dodgers legend Sandy Koufax. Both wore blue Dodgers caps and white shirts as they cheered for Los Angeles in a game that would see the Blue Jays prevail 6-2, tying the series at two games apiece.

The backlash centered primarily on Harry’s choice to support the American team rather than the Canadian franchise, given his position as fifth in line to the British throne. King Charles III serves as the official head of state for Canada, one of 56 Commonwealth nations with historic ties to the United Kingdom.

Cody Welton, deputy chief of staff for Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s office, expressed dismay on social media, stating that Harry’s father is the king of Canada and calling the Dodgers cap choice “absolutely shameful.” Andrew MacDougall, former head of communications for Prime Minister Stephen Harper, described the decision as unintelligent because the son of the king of Canada should support the Canadian team. He added that it would have been a better media story if Harry had sided with the opposite team from his wife.

Ben Woodfinden, a former director of communications for Conservative Party of Canada Leader Pierre Poilievre, accused the couple of dodging duty and responsibility. Independent journalist Chris Tomlinson questioned what was worse: betraying the king’s dominion or cheering for the Dodgers. Alyn Kenji Marsh, who works in Canada’s parliament as an executive assistant for an Alberta member of parliament, remarked on the irony of the king’s son wearing a Dodgers hat.

Dan Arnold, chief strategy officer at Ottawa-based Pollara Strategic Insights and a former pollster for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, saw an opportunity for Harry’s older brother. According to Arnold, “William is one insta post in a Jays cap away from the ultimate troll job.”

Critics also targeted Meghan for appearing to abandon her Canadian connections. The duchess lived in Toronto for parts of seven years while filming the television series “Suits,” which she left upon her engagement to Harry in 2017. Social media users shared undated photographs of Meghan wearing Blue Jays gear from her Toronto days. Tara Greene of Toronto called Meghan a traitor, noting she became famous acting in Toronto for seven years and became a millionaire, which led to meeting Harry.

Even Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley weighed in from his personal social media account, sarcastically commenting on the couple’s public relations approach in relation to Canadian baseball fans from coast to coast.

A lip-reading expert provided insight into what the couple discussed during their public date night. Nicola Hickling told RadarOnline that after waving to fans, Meghan told an aide she had to go quickly and was expecting something. The duchess asked her husband if anyone was present, to which Harry reportedly responded that he could not see. Meghan then lightheartedly pointed out someone to Harry and remarked that the experience was fun.

The couple joined approximately 60,000 attendees at the stadium, which also drew other celebrities including Justin Bieber and Hailey Bieber, who attended the previous game that became the second-longest MLB postseason game ever at six hours and 39 minutes over 18 innings. Sydney Sweeney attended game four with professional boxer Christy Martin, whom she portrays in a film that is scheduled for release on November 7, 2025.

Meghan’s connection to the Dodgers extends beyond simply living in Los Angeles. The team represents her hometown, and she has been photographed wearing Dodgers caps on multiple occasions, including during the California wildfires earlier this year. Her longstanding support for the team appears well documented, with a website dedicated to her style promoting blue and green versions of the cap.

The appearance came hours after Meghan launched her first holiday collection for her lifestyle brand As Ever, which includes special nods to Harry and their children. The collection features hand-poured candles, artisanal fruit spreads, golden California honey and celebratory wines, described as designed for giving, gathering and elevating occasions with beauty and warmth.

While this marked Harry’s first World Series game, he and Meghan previously attended a regular-season MLB game in London between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees in 2019, which was the first-ever regular-season MLB game played in Europe.
