Netflix has released the trailer for “Tyson,” a four-part documentary series about former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, and the boxer spends much of it taking stock of himself rather than his record. The streamer put the clip out on Thursday, September 17, 2026, ahead of the series’ premiere on Tuesday, October 13.
The trailer opens with Tyson, 60, on where he started. “I lived like a rat on the street all my life,” he says.
He also weighs what the rise meant at the age it arrived. “Can you imagine being a high school dropout, 20 years old, and you’re the champ of the world?” he says in the trailer. Tyson says the instant celebrity that followed was overwhelming.
He adds: “I was a nut back then, huh?”
Tyson then describes the version of himself the public saw. “This is the dark side of me,” he says. “That’s just who I became. Addicted to chaos.”
Asked by a producer why he feels that way, Tyson says he does not know, then tells him: “You’re making this difficult for me now.” The producer, heard only asking why, is not named.
Fight Footage and a Trainer’s Grave
The trailer moves between archival bout footage and press conferences, including the 1997 fight in which Tyson bit the ear of opponent Evander Holyfield. It also turns quiet in places: Tyson wipes tears from his eyes at one point.
The series is directed by Floyd Russ, whose credits include “American Manhunt: O.J. Simpson.” Netflix bills the project as “unfiltered and deeply personal,” told in Tyson’s own words and built on previously unseen material and access to his family, friends and foes. The streamer says the series follows him from a turbulent childhood in Brooklyn to worldwide fame, and casts him as one of the sport’s most feared and compelling figures. Each of the four episodes runs one hour.
Netflix announced the premiere date in a post on X on September 17, promoting the series under Tyson’s old ring nickname, the “Baddest Man on the Planet.”
His Wife and Son Speak on Camera
Tyson is not the only voice in the trailer. His wife, Lakiha “Kiki” Spicer, says: “The things that he’s gone through…most people would have just been dead.”
His son Miguel Tyson, 24, offers his own read on his father. “I think he’s just so broken from his past, but inside, there’s a broken guy just trying to be a good father,” he says.
Tyson is a father of seven and a native of the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn.
A Title at 20 and a Return to Netflix
Tyson first won a heavyweight title in 1986 at age 20, becoming the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history. A two-time WBA and WBC champion and a Hall of Famer, he also absorbed the defeats that reshaped his career, losing to Buster Douglas, Holyfield and Lennox Lewis.
His most recent bout came against social media star Jake Paul in 2024, a fight staged by Netflix that drew nearly 65 million viewers worldwide. The documentary and a stand-up special give the streamer two more Tyson titles this fall.
One-Man Show Follows in November
“Mike Tyson: Return of the Mike,” a one-man show filmed at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, premieres November 3. Spicer directed it, and it marks Tyson’s first return to the stage since his 2013 show “Undisputed Truth.” Netflix calls the special raw and unfiltered and says Tyson “trades menace for mischief,” promising a fighter who turns the upheavals of his own life into punchlines.
For now, the trailer is the only look audiences have at how much of that life the documentary takes on, and Tyson has the last word himself. “It’s hard to navigate your true self when you really don’t know who the f— you are,” he says as the clip ends.
