After the brutal murder of 28-year-old model Abby Choi, whose body parts were discovered in kitchen pots and a refrigerator on February 24, police in Hong Kong began searching a landfill for more missing body parts on Tuesday.
Choi’s remains were discovered by police in a Hong Kong neighborhood at a rental property owned by her ex-father-in-law, Kwong Kau. Alex Kwong, his father Kwong Kau, and his brother Anthony Kwong have all been accused of murder in connection with Choi’s death. A woman was also arrested on mainland China, Hong Kong police said Tuesday, March 7.
Police found an electric saw and a meat grinder in the house, and it was found to have traces of human flesh, according to Police Superintendent Alan Chung.
Alex Kwong’s mom, Jenny Li, has been charged with obstruction of justice. Nobody was allowed to post bond, and they were all in custody. A second woman was arrested for allegedly aiding the accused, but she was later released on bail pending further investigation. Officials believe she had an affair with Choi’s ex-father-in-law Kwong Kau.
Seven people have been arrested for involvement in the murder.
On Tuesday morning, over a hundred officers dressed in protective gear headed to the North East New Territories Landfill in Ta Kwu Ling to use excavators and shovels to search for the missing body parts. From mainland China, it takes only about 30 minutes to reach Ta Kwu Ling. According to police reports, both Choi’s hands and body were still missing.
Multiple bags containing crucial evidence were discarded by the suspects, according to Superintendent Chung. This occurred on the morning of February 22. These could consist of the victim’s clothing and phone or weapons used in the crime.
Choi, who had over 100,000 Instagram followers, disappeared on February 21. A photoshoot she did for the fashion magazine L’Officiel Monaco was featured in her most recent social media entry, dated February 19.
She and her ex-husband Choi had a huge money fight including his family, involving millions of Hong Kong dollars.
Hong Kong is a semi-autonomous city in southern China with a comparatively low prevalence of violent crime; thus, the shocking death has shocked both locals and those on the mainland.
Choi leaves behind two children, who were placed in the care of their grandmother.
