A dog attack in Florida has resulted in the death of a six-year-old boy, prompting his family to request the euthanization of the pet dog involved.
Daylan Guillen’s death, caused by severe injuries to the upper torso, occurred at Tampa General Hospital following the July 4 incident. Local authorities are carrying out an investigation to determine whether charges need to be filed in relation to this tragic event.
North Port Police Chief Todd Garrison expressed deep sympathy for the pain endured by Daylan’s family. As a father and pet owner himself, Garrison voiced his understanding of the magnitude of the loss.
Interestingly, no prior instances of aggression were reported regarding the pit bull, now three years old. Now quarantined by the Sarasota County Animal Services, the dog is slated to be euthanized after a mandatory 10-day waiting period, per the family’s request.
Investigations are ongoing to ascertain whether anyone will be held accountable for the tragedy. Despite the incident, the family maintains that the dog had previously shown no signs of aggression.
The community of North Port, and specifically Daylan’s little league baseball team, is mourning this tragic loss. Daylan, remembered as a jovial and kind young boy, often helped as a bat boy for his older brother’s team. A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to help with the funeral costs.
