A promising football career and a life dedicated to helping others came to a tragic end early Saturday morning when Jordan Jones, 28, was fatally shot outside an Acworth, Georgia, bar while trying to protect a woman from being assaulted.
The Acworth Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at Saddle Bar on Cowan Road at approximately 2:42 a.m. on March 7, 2026. Officers discovered Jones suffering from a gunshot wound and immediately rendered aid before transporting him to Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, where he later died from his injuries.
Jones was working as a security guard at the bar when he witnessed a woman being assaulted in the parking lot. True to his character, the former college linebacker intervened to stop the attack. After successfully breaking up the altercation involving Daniel Di Vonne Parsons, 25, of Douglasville, the situation appeared to calm down. However, police say Parsons retrieved a firearm and shot Jones in the back.
Jones’s uncle, Edward Jones, described his nephew’s instinct to help others, telling WSB-TV that Jordan “simply grabbed him, an old bear hug, and put him to the side” rather than resorting to violence.
Parsons was arrested and charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, and aggravated battery. He remains held without bond at the Cobb County jail. The Acworth Police Department stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
Jones’s football journey began at Mountain View High School, where he later returned to coach and serve as a substitute teacher. He went on to play linebacker at the University of West Alabama, recording an impressive 211 total tackles, 17 sacks, five forced fumbles, and one interception during his college career. He continued playing professionally in the Indoor Football League for the Tulsa Oilers and San Antonio Gunslingers.
Most recently, Jones had signed with the Michigan Arsenal of the Arena Football One League and was set to join the team for their upcoming training camp. Owner George Bradford expressed his grief over the loss of a player he had eagerly anticipated welcoming to the organization.
The Indoor Football League released a statement mourning the loss of their former All-IFL linebacker, noting that “Jordan left a lasting mark on the league and those who had the privilege of knowing him.”

K’Maron Patterson called his friend a hero who instinctively stepped up when others needed help, noting that Jones’s imposing physical presence matched his willingness to intervene when he saw someone in trouble.
The Mountain View High School community, where he both played and coached, released a memorial tribute honoring his contributions. “Jordan was a leader on and off the field and a tremendous role model for our student-athletes,” the school’s statement read. “His legacy will live on in the lives he impacted.”
