Nicole Kidman Finally Breaks Silence On Shock Divorce

Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman has broken her silence about her divorce from country music star Keith Urban, telling Variety that she remains focused on moving forward with her family after nearly two decades of marriage ended earlier this year.

The 58-year-old actress filed for divorce on September 30, 2025, citing irreconcilable differences, after the couple had reportedly been living separately since the beginning of summer. A Tennessee judge finalized the split on January 6, 2026, ending a marriage that began at the Cardinal Cerretti Memorial Chapel in Sydney in 2006.

“I am, because I’m always going to be moving toward what’s good,” Kidman told Variety when asked how she was doing since the separation. “What I’m grateful for is my family and keeping them as is and moving forward. That’s that. Everything else I don’t discuss out of respect.”

Under the finalized settlement, Kidman was granted primary custody of the couple’s two daughters: Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 15. The parenting plan allocates 306 days per year with Kidman and gives Urban parenting time every other weekend. Both parents agreed to share responsibility for major decisions involving their children, and neither will pay child or spousal support. The couple’s assets were divided to their mutual satisfaction, according to court filings.

Neither Kidman nor Urban attended the court hearing in Nashville where the divorce was finalized. The children will continue living in Nashville, where Kidman serves as the primary residential parent.

Despite the personal upheaval, Kidman has no plans to leave the Tennessee city where she has built her life for nearly two decades. The actress told Variety that Nashville remains central to her identity and her daughters’ lives, noting she has been “part of the city and community for 20 years.”

Kidman and Urban purchased their Nashville estate in 2008 for $3.47 million, a sprawling 10,925-square-foot property in the exclusive gated community of Northumberland—earning it the nickname the “Queen of Northumberland.” The mansion sits on roughly two acres and features seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a swimming pool, tennis court, and home theater. According to sources, Kidman wanted to remain in the property to provide stability for her daughters during the transition.

The actress has also developed deep roots in the Nashville community, describing having “ride-or-die” friends in the city. She lives near longtime friend and “Big Little Lies” co-star Reese Witherspoon—in fact, Kidman told Variety that the two “live opposite each other” and went on a long walk together the morning of her interview. Nashville has also become tied to her professional life, with her series “Scarpetta” filming there and now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

This marks Kidman’s second divorce. She was previously married to Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001, and the couple adopted two children together: Isabella, now 32, and Connor, now 31. Kidman married Urban, an Australian-born country singer, in 2006 after they met at the G’Day USA Gala in Los Angeles in 2005. It was Urban’s first marriage.

In her interview with Variety, Kidman reflected on her past, noting she was just 23 when she married Cruise. The actress has previously spoken about how young she was when she started her family, but kept her comments focused on the present during this interview.

Looking back on 2025, Kidman acknowledged it was a difficult year personally. “I was quiet. I had other things going on. I was in my shell,” she told Variety. However, she expressed optimism about 2026, saying she would be in “full witch mode” for the upcoming “Practical Magic” sequel with Sandra Bullock, set to release September 11.

Beyond the witch sequel, Kidman’s 2026 slate is stacked. She stars in “Scarpetta” on Prime Video, continues filming season three of Taylor Sheridan’s “Lioness,” and has a supporting role in the latest horror film from director Osgood Perkins.

Throughout the interview, Kidman emphasized her commitment to maintaining a strong family unit despite the divorce, saying she is “staying in a place of, ‘We are a family,’ and that’s what we’ll continue to be.”

Kidman posted a photo with her daughters on New Year’s Day, signaling her focus on looking forward. Reports suggest the children spend significantly more time with Kidman than with Urban, though there is reportedly “no drama” regarding custody arrangements.

The actress waived alimony and child support payments as part of the settlement, maintaining the financial independence that has characterized her decades-long career in Hollywood.
