The four-time NBA champion delivered a cheeky, tongue-in-cheek reaction during an appearance at Fanatics Fest held at the Javits Center in New York City on Friday, July 17, poking fun at his exclusion before offering the newlyweds a genuinely sweet blessing.
Asked whether he and longtime friend Charles Barkley had scored invitations to the star-packed ceremony, O’Neal stared straight into the camera and deadpanned, “No. Thanks, Taylor. Thanks, Travis.” O’Neal’s response was dry and self-aware but delivered with good humor. The 54-year-old then shifted tone and offered the couple a sincere four-word wish: “May it last forever.”
O’Neal had previously shared similar well-wishes after the pair revealed their engagement in August 2025, telling the outlet he looked forward to their wedding.
Charles Barkley Turned Down the Invite
While O’Neal never made the list, Charles Barkley, his fellow NBA Hall of Famer and broadcast partner, did — and passed. Speaking on the “Unfiltered with Ricky Bo & Bill Colarulo” podcast, Barkley said he avoids weddings and funerals as a rule and predicted the celebrity-filled event would turn into a “crap show.”
Barkley clarified that his decision wasn’t personal, noting his fondness for both Travis and Jason Kelce and mentioning he’d met Swift once, but the scale of the event simply wasn’t for him. He “politely declined” and spent the day golfing instead of joining the hundreds of celebrities and athletes gathered at the arena.
Inside the Madison Square Garden Ceremony
Swift and Kelce exchanged vows at the famed New York City venue after nearly three years together. Both wore custom Christian Dior Haute Couture designed by Jonathan Anderson, and the singer rounded out her bridal look with Christian Louboutin shoes and Cartier jewelry.
The couple skipped tradition with their wedding party.
