Rep. Yassamin Ansari of Arizona asked Barron Trump, 20, to testify before Congress in July about his relationship with Andrew Tate.
Barron Trump is the son of President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. He has not faced any charges in the matter. Tate is behind bars awaiting deportation to the UK.
Ansari said in July, “Barron Trump is an adult. He is somebody who is deeply involved in Trump’s orbit and the whole manosphere, and he has a lot of influence.” She added, “So he needs to be held accountable if he has committed any wrongdoing.”
The White House called the allegations politically motivated. An administration official said, “Democrats have nothing to run on, so they attack the president, members of his Cabinet, and members of his family instead of offering real solutions to help voters.”
Super PAC Money for Lawyers
President Trump is preparing for possible congressional investigations into family members if Democrats retake Congress in the November 3 midterms. He has set aside money from his MAGA Inc. super PAC for potential legal defense costs for Barron, Melania Trump and Jared Kushner.
Barron is also involved in World Liberty Financial, the Trump family cryptocurrency business. Critics have scrutinized possible conflicts of interest tied to the presidency.
Ninety Minutes at Mar-a-Lago
Barron has spent most of his life out of public view. The fullest picture of him painted by anyone outside the family came from a private dinner at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Fla., in 2024, the year he turned 18 in March.
Barron ran that dinner for 90 minutes with stories, jokes and entertainment, by the guests’ account. They left with a very different impression of a young man long described in shorthand as the quiet one, shy and happiest in the background.
The guests revisited the evening on an episode of “PBD Podcast” in April 2024. Entrepreneur Patrick Bet-David, the founder of the media company Valuetainment, was there, along with fellow guest Tom Ellsworth and actor and comedian Vincent Oshana. Adam Sosnick, a PBD Podcast co-host, was also listed among the guests. Barron brought his friend Bo Loudon, an internet personality.
Bet-David said he had never watched Ellsworth laugh that hard for that long. Oshana was struck by how easily Barron held the room, and by his read on politics. Barron told the table that people are always going to fight, and that there is a left and a right, Oshana recounted.
Midway through the meal, the music suddenly got loud. Barron told the table his father was the DJ. The guests saw the president at work on his iPad, the screen lighting his face. Barron described his father’s volume at home this way, as recalled by Oshana: “I’ll be in my room and the house is shaking.”
Ellsworth said the candid family anecdotes were the standout, with nothing snide and nothing crude. He described a kid on his way to college, with plans that could shift with his father’s job. Bet-David summed up the night by calling Barron sharp, funny, sarcastic and tough.
A Gold Spoon, Not Silver
The biggest laughs came when the conversation turned to money. The guests traded stories of lean stretches. Barron said deadpan that it had been rough for him too, because he was born in a penthouse at the top of a building. Other people got a silver spoon, he joked, and his was gold.
Stephanie Grisham, a former White House press secretary who also served as Melania Trump’s chief of staff, told the Daily Mail, “I cannot stress enough how kind and polite Barron is.” She also called him humble, empathetic and smart.
From New York to Washington
Melania Trump told Parenting magazine, when Barron was about five, that her son already knew his own mind, held firm views and was clear about what he wanted. She later told Fox News that choosing a college in New York was his decision and that she respected it. She said she did not feel like an empty-nester.
Barron enrolled at New York University’s Stern School of Business in 2024, the college chapter the guests heard discussed aloud at that dinner. He spent his sophomore year at NYU’s Washington, D.C., campus and continues there in his junior year.
Barron is the youngest of the president’s five children. Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump and Eric Trump come from Trump’s marriage to Ivana Trump, and Tiffany Trump from his marriage to Marla Maples. Donald and Melania Trump wed in 2005, and Barron was born in 2006.
Barron stands 6 feet 7 inches tall, taller than the president, who has spoken publicly about his son’s height. He makes few public appearances. Photographers captured him with his parents and his maternal grandfather, Viktor Knavs, at the funeral of Melania Trump’s mother, Amalija Knavs.
The dinner guests did not meet the retiring kid in the background. They met the one who kept a table of grown men laughing for an hour and a half.
