Tiger Woods Makes Surprise Appearance Amid Comeback Rumors

Tiger Woods stood on the driving range at Monterey Peninsula Country Club on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, walked a gallery of charity guests through what he was trying to do with each swing, then flighted the low stinger that has long been his calling card.

The 15-time major champion, 50, was hosting a clinic for guests at the Tiger Woods Invitational presented by Insperity, the three-day charity competition that ran Oct. 12-14 on the Monterey Peninsula and raises money for his TGR Foundation, which supports young people through educational programs. Video of the range session was posted on Instagram by the TGR Live account, under the caption: “Back on your feed, right where this swing belongs.”

Still No Date for a Return

Woods has not played an official PGA Tour event since the 2024 Open Championship, and he has announced no date for his next competitive start. He was spotted hitting balls at a charity event at Liberty National in New Jersey in September. In March, he was involved in a rollover crash in Florida and arrested on a DUI charge.

The Peninsula has staged a version of this scene before. In 2017, three days after posting his first full-swing video following back fusion surgery that April, Woods gave a clinic at his Invitational alongside Kevin Chappell. At the Presidents Cup on Sept. 27, 2017, Woods said his timetable depended on what his surgeon told him. He went on to win the 2019 Masters, a victory described as one of the most remarkable comebacks in sports.

A Week of Hosting on the Peninsula

The clinic sat in the middle of a crowded itinerary. Round one of the Invitational was played Monday, Oct. 12, at Spyglass Hill Golf Course. Round two followed Tuesday on the club’s Dunes Course, and the final round was played at Pebble Beach Golf Links on Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Woods was also at the TGR Jr Invitational at Pebble Beach that week, an event that brought 60 junior golfers to the course. He hosted the match play finals and delivered the players’ introductions on the first tee.

Insperity is the Invitational’s presenting partner, and proceeds benefit the TGR Foundation.

The 2027 Calendar Beckons

What gives the setting its charge is the schedule ahead. Next year Pebble Beach stages its seventh U.S. Open, the 127th edition, set for June 17-20, 2027, on the course where Woods won by a record 15 strokes in 2000. The U.S. Open carries no lifetime exemption, so he would need a special invitation from the U.S. Golf Association, the kind he was granted for the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst.

Other doors open earlier. The Genesis Invitational, set for Feb. 18-21, 2027, at Riviera Country Club, is hosted by Woods and benefits the TGR Foundation, though Riviera’s hills would test a player who has undergone Achilles and back surgery. He played the 2023 and 2024 editions, withdrawing because of illness in 2024. The Masters follows April 8-11, 2027, at Augusta National, where Woods is exempt for life as a five-time champion; he had been working toward playing the 2026 Masters before the March crash ruled it out. The Open Championship returns to the Old Course at St Andrews on July 15-18, 2027, a venue where he has won twice.

Then there is the Ryder Cup at Adare Manor, Sept. 17-19, 2027, where U.S. captain Jim Furyk has said Woods could have a role with the team.

Before any of that, Woods will host the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas in December, where 20 of the world’s best players will compete.
