Mark Mortimer, the actor who played Nick Hudson on NBC’s long-running daytime drama “Another World,” died Sept. 23, 2026, at 59.
His family confirmed the death in an online obituary, which said it came “after a fearless journey with cancer.” The notice did not specify further details about his illness. Mortimer had been diagnosed with cancer in 2024.
News of his death was widely reported across trade and national entertainment outlets, which remembered him chiefly for the role that introduced him to television audiences in the 1990s.
A Three-Year Run in Daytime TV
Mortimer was born April 15, 1967, in Yorkville, Ill. He made his acting debut in 1996, joining the cast of “Another World” as Nick. He logged 81 episodes on the NBC soap over three years, a run that carried him to the serial’s final episode in 1999, when the show ended its network run.
His screen work after daytime was limited. Mortimer appeared in the film “Sin City” and in 2005’s “The Nowhere Man,” and then largely withdrew from acting, redirecting his energy toward business and family. His entire on-camera career was concentrated in roughly a decade.
Building a Life Off Camera
Mortimer married Christie Mortimer in 2000. The couple went on to start Inside Out Construction together, and they had one daughter, Hunter Mortimer.
The family’s tribute presented his biography as a sequence of reinventions rather than a single career. It listed him as an Army veteran, a model, an actor, an entrepreneur and a builder, and described a man drawn to new ventures who was comfortable changing direction and working out the details as he went along. Of all the titles he collected, the obituary said, the two he prized were husband and dad.
The Role That Mattered Most
Much of the obituary was given over to his relationship with his daughter, whom the family called the greatest gift of her parents’ lives. The tribute described a bond grounded in honesty and trust, and said Mortimer was present and deliberate about it: when Hunter was small, he put her to bed every night, and as she got older he arranged his working life so that he would not miss her childhood.
“She was the schedule,” the obituary said.
Faith Through the Diagnosis
Mortimer’s cancer diagnosis came in 2024, but his family wrote that the illness never became the defining element of his story. The tribute said he met the end of his life with the same faith that had shaped it, and that his confidence did not rest on the expectation that events would break his way.
Instead, the family wrote, it rested on his belief in Jesus and in the promise of Heaven — a conviction that, in the obituary’s telling, gave him peace as his life drew to a close.
For viewers who followed “Another World” through the end of its run, Mortimer remains a familiar face from the show’s last chapter, one of the performers whose work was cut short when NBC closed the book on the serial in 1999. For the people who knew him after that, the identifying details were different ones: a construction company, a marriage that lasted a quarter of his life, and a daughter whose school nights set her father’s calendar.
Mortimer is survived by his wife, Christie; their daughter, Hunter; his mother, Sharlene; his father, Emil; and six siblings, Michael, Michele, Martin, Melissa, David and Tyler.
