A five-year-old girl from Fort Collins, Colorado, died due to an accident involving a swing set in her backyard.

The child, identified as Aurora Masters, was playing near her home when she became entangled in the disc swing set, her great-aunt told a news outlet. “She moved her little plastic slide close to the swing and somehow got caught in the swing, leading to strangulation,” Brenda Kennedy explained.

City of Fort Collins Police Department officers were dispatched to the scene and provided assistance prior to the arrival of Emergency Medical Services. Masters was then transferred to Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora. Despite receiving treatment for brain trauma, she passed away on May 13.

Authorities have ruled the death as accidental and announced that no further investigation will be conducted.

Following the incident, Masters’ family chose to donate her organs, as mentioned by Kennedy on a GoFundMe page created for the child. “Plans for a memorial service and a celebration of life are underway,” Kennedy shared on the fundraiser. “The event will celebrate Aurora’s spirit with singing, dancing, and memorable activities for her and her friends. Remaining funds will be directed towards agencies or organizations that honor Aurora’s memory.” A contingent from the Sentinels Motorcycle Club accompanied her body home

The fundraising page has gathered over $26,000 in support as of Wednesday, May 15. It noted that a contingent from the Sentinels Motorcycle Club accompanied her body home.

In the aftermath of Masters’ death, 19 relatives from Wyoming and Nebraska came to Colorado.

Described as a bright and joyful presence, Masters was celebrated by family and friends for her laughter, love for dressing up, and affection towards babies.

Kennedy expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, sharing on the GoFundMe page, “Thank you all for your continued thoughts, prayers, and shares for our sweet baby girl.”

In a touching reference, Kennedy also mentioned the northern lights that appeared last weekend, saying, “If you looked up last night, or you look up tonight, you will see our Miss Aurora putting on a beautiful show for you with the borealis.”

The family’s decision to focus on the joy Masters brought to their lives and their efforts to create a lasting legacy in her memory is a testament to their resilience and love for the young girl.
