Beloved Reporter Dead in Suspected Murder–Suicide

A former Alabama sports reporter and her husband were found dead from gunshot wounds in their Hoover, Alabama, home on December 16, 2025, in what authorities believe was a murder-suicide. Christina Chambers, 38, and Johnny Rimes Jr., 41, were discovered by a family member conducting a welfare check at their residence in the 700 block of Highland Manor Court.

The couple’s 3-year-old son, Constantine, was found unharmed inside the home. Police responded to the scene around 9 a.m. Tuesday after the family member made the grim discovery. Both victims were pronounced dead at 9:12 a.m.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates determined the shootings occurred between 6:15 a.m. and 9:03 a.m. Tuesday morning. Chambers had gone for a run that morning and returned to her home around 6 a.m., according to investigators. The Jefferson County Coroner stated she sustained gunshot wound injuries during a reported domestic assault, while Rimes died from a gunshot wound injury during the same incident.

The family had been expected at a Christmas program at Prince of Peace Catholic School in Hoover that morning. When Chambers, Rimes and their son failed to appear, Rimes’ parents went to the couple’s home to check on them, leading to the tragic discovery.

Chambers was a well-known figure in Alabama sports broadcasting. She joined WBRC Fox 6 News in November 2015. She left her full-time position at the station in 2021 but continued freelance work, including sideline reporting for WBRC during the 2025 football season.

Following her departure from full-time broadcasting, Chambers dedicated herself to education. From 2021 to 2025, she taught broadcast journalism at Thompson High School.

At the time of her death, Chambers worked at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama.

Chambers was an accomplished athlete herself. She was a track and cross country athlete at the University of Alabama Birmingham and remained an avid runner throughout her life.

Chambers and Rimes married in 2021. The couple were active members of their community and parishioners at Prince of Peace Catholic School in Hoover, where their son attended.

The news of Chambers’ death sent shockwaves through Alabama’s sports media community. Former colleagues and friends took to social media to express their grief and remember her vibrant personality and professional dedication.

A GoFundMe campaign has been established to provide for Constantine’s future, raising nearly $30,000 for his educational expenses and future academic opportunities. The fund aims to honor Chambers’ memory by carrying forward the love and dreams she had for her son.

The Hoover Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths in conjunction with the Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner’s Office, which will make the final determination on cause and manner of death. Police have stated there is no threat to the public related to this case.
