Jill Biden’s Ex-Husband’s Wife Found Dead at Home

Linda Stevenson, 64, was found dead in the living room of her Oak Hill, Delaware, home late Sunday after police responded to a domestic dispute call, authorities said.

Officers arrived late Sunday on December 28, 2025, and discovered Stevenson unresponsive. Despite life-saving measures attempted at the scene, she was pronounced dead, according to the New Castle County Police Department.

Linda Stevenson was married to Bill Stevenson, 77, the former husband of former First Lady Jill Biden. Bill Stevenson called 911, and audio from the emergency call mentioned cardiac arrest.

No charges have been filed in connection with Linda Stevenson’s death. The Criminal Investigations Unit has taken over the case as a death investigation remains ongoing.

Her body has been transferred to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science, where an autopsy will be performed to determine the official cause of death.

Christina Vettori, 45, Linda’s daughter, told the Daily Mail that the case was a murder investigation. “It’s still a murder investigation,” Vettori said. “I would not like to talk at this time.”

Police denied the claim that the investigation was being treated as a murder case.

“Detectives from the Division’s Criminal Investigations Unit were notified and responded to the scene to assume the investigation,” police said in a news release.

Bill and Linda Stevenson had been married for about 40 years. The couple shared their home in Oak Hill, Delaware, where the incident occurred Sunday night.

Bill Stevenson was previously married to Jill Biden from 1970 to 1975. The couple married in 1970. They separated in 1974 and divorced the following year.

Jill Biden went on to marry Joe Biden in 1977, two years after her divorce from Bill Stevenson was finalized.

Bill Stevenson has claimed for years that Jill Biden had an affair with Joe Biden before their marriage ended. The Bidens have publicly stated they met on a blind date after Jill’s first marriage concluded.

Bill Stevenson owned The Stone Balloon Tavern, a popular venue that became well-known in Delaware.

The death of Linda Stevenson has drawn attention due to her husband’s past connection to the Biden family, though authorities have provided limited details about the circumstances surrounding the domestic dispute call that led officers to the residence on Sunday.

Police have not disclosed whether Bill Stevenson was present when officers arrived or what the nature of the alleged domestic dispute involved. Investigators have not released further information about who may have been involved in the incident.

The New Castle County Police Department has asked anyone with information related to the case to contact detectives. The department has not provided a timeline for when results from the autopsy might be available.

Linda Stevenson is survived by her husband Bill and her daughter Christina Vettori. The family has not issued any public statements beyond Christina Vettori’s brief comments to media.

Bill Stevenson’s marriage to Jill Biden decades ago has periodically drawn media attention, particularly during Joe Biden’s political career.

Jill Biden and Bill Stevenson’s divorce in 1975 ended a five-year marriage that began when both were young adults.

The circumstances of Linda Stevenson’s death remain under investigation as authorities work to piece together what occurred at the Oak Hill residence late Sunday. The domestic dispute call that brought police to the scene has not been detailed by officials, who have maintained limited public comment on the ongoing investigation.

The Delaware Division of Forensic Science will conduct a complete autopsy to determine how Linda Stevenson died. The results of that examination will be key to understanding the events that led to her death on December 28, 2025.
