A body was discovered in the sea off the coast of Cornwall, England, amid the search for Alexander Key, the partner of Mick Jagger’s granddaughter, authorities confirmed.
Officers and HM Coastguard were called around 6:30 p.m. on January 31, 2026, after the body was discovered in the sea at Bude. The man was deceased at the scene.
Devon & Cornwall Police said formal identification has not yet been carried out, but officers believe the person to be 37-year-old Alexander Key, who was reported missing on January 24, 2026. Key is the partner of Assisi Jackson, 33, the granddaughter of Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, 82.
The death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner, police said. “Mr Key’s family has thanked police and HM Coastguard for their efforts, along with all those who assisted in the search for him,” Devon & Cornwall Police stated. “They have asked for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time.”
Key and Jackson share two children together. Jackson is the daughter of Jade Jagger, 54, a British jewelry designer and the daughter of Mick Jagger. Key worked as a chef and was co-owner of The Rocket Store, a seafood restaurant in Boscastle, Cornwall. He operated the establishment alongside head chef Freddie Woodruff.
Key was last seen on Friday, January 23, at the Cobweb Inn, a pub in Boscastle, at approximately 2:30 p.m. Additional CCTV footage captured him at 3:25 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, walking past the Wellington Pub on Old Road. He was heading in the direction of Boscastle Harbour towards the River Valency.
Devon & Cornwall Police launched an urgent search for Key after becoming increasingly concerned for his welfare. Jade Jagger shared the police appeal on Instagram, helping to spread awareness of the search efforts among her followers.
Boscastle is a small coastal village in Cornwall known for its historic harbor and dramatic coastal scenery. The village sits at the confluence of three valleys and is surrounded by steep cliffs.
The discovery at Bude indicates the body had traveled a distance from where Key was last seen at Boscastle.
Devon & Cornwall Police serve a large geographic area in England, covering the counties of Devon and Cornwall. The force area includes extensive coastline, requiring close collaboration with maritime agencies for incidents involving the sea. “Police increasingly concerned for welfare,” a spokesperson said during the search efforts.
The Jagger family has long been connected to Britain’s cultural landscape. Mick Jagger founded the Rolling Stones, and the band became one of the most influential rock groups in history. His daughter Jade Jagger has established her own career as a jewelry designer. Assisi Jackson, as Jade’s daughter, represents the third generation of this prominent family.
When deaths occur that are not considered suspicious, police in England and Wales must still conduct thorough investigations and prepare detailed reports for the coroner. The coroner’s inquest is an independent judicial inquiry to determine who the deceased was and how, when, and where they died.
The formal identification process involves multiple steps to ensure accuracy, particularly in cases where the body has been in water.
