Bruce Willis celebrated his 71st birthday on Thursday with an outpouring of love from his blended family, as ex-wife Demi Moore shared new photos of the retired actor bonding with his young granddaughter.
Moore posted heartwarming images to Instagram showing Willis holding his nearly 3-year-old granddaughter Louetta in his lap while she kissed his cheek. A second photo captured the tender moment with Louetta’s arm wrapped around her grandfather’s shoulder.
“All you need is LOVE. Happy birthday, BW! ♥️,” Moore captioned the post, which quickly drew emotional responses from fans and fellow celebrities.
The 63-year-old actress, who earned her first Oscar nomination for her role in “The Substance,” also shared the snapshots to her Instagram Stories, writing “Generational love! Happy birthday, BW!”
Willis stepped away from acting in 2022 following an aphasia diagnosis, with his family later revealing he had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. The “Die Hard” star retired from his decades-long career after the diagnosis became public.
Moore and Willis married in 1987 and divorced in 2000, but have remained close friends. The former couple shares three daughters: Rumer, 37, Scout, 34, and Tallulah, 32. Louetta is the daughter of Rumer Willis and her ex-boyfriend Derek Richard Thomas, born in April 2023.
Rumer joined in the birthday celebration by posting a compilation of her father’s iconic film roles throughout his career. “Happy Birthday Daddio I wanted to think about you today. Dancing around, being your undeniably charming self. I love you so much,” she wrote.
The eldest Willis daughter previously told US Magazine in October 2024 how meaningful her parents’ continued friendship remains to the family.
Willis married model Emma Heming Willis in 2009, and the couple shares two daughters: Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11. Emma, 47, also honored her husband with a birthday tribute that highlighted her advocacy work for dementia awareness.
Emma used the occasion to promote The Emma & Bruce Willis Fund, which she launched earlier this month at the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration’s Hope Rising Benefit in New York City. The fund focuses on raising awareness of FTD, supporting research, and providing resources for caregivers.
“Today we celebrate Bruce’s birthday. This journey with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) has opened my eyes to the realities so many families face. It’s what inspired me to create The Emma & Bruce Willis Fund to raise awareness of FTD, support research, and stand beside the caregivers who carry so much every day,” Emma wrote in her Instagram post.
She encouraged followers to honor Willis by supporting dementia organizations or checking in on caregivers. “If you’d like to honor Bruce today, please consider supporting the fund or another organization working in this space, or simply checking in on a caregiver — a small act of kindness that can mean so much. 💙,” she added.
Emma has become an outspoken advocate for FTD awareness since her husband’s diagnosis. She published “The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself on the Caregiving Path” in September 2025 and has spoken openly about the challenges of caring for someone with the condition.
In August 2025, Emma revealed she made the difficult decision to move Willis into a second home where he receives round-the-clock care. The move allowed their young daughters to remain in an environment better suited to their needs rather than being shaped entirely by their father’s medical requirements.
Moore addressed the challenges of watching Willis’s health decline during a podcast interview in September 2025. She emphasized the importance of meeting him where he is rather than expecting him to be who he once was, describing moments of “incredible sweetness” and tenderness in their interactions.
The birthday tributes demonstrated the strength of the blended family that has rallied around Willis during his health journey. Both Moore and Emma, along with all five of Willis’s daughters, have maintained a united front in supporting the actor through his frontotemporal dementia battle.
Moore continues her own acting career with upcoming appearances in “I Love Boosters” alongside Keke Palmer, set for theatrical release May 22, 2026. She also stars in the Paramount+ series “Landman,” which was renewed for a third season in December 2025.
The birthday celebration offered fans a rare glimpse of Willis surrounded by family love as he navigates life with dementia, while highlighting the ongoing efforts to raise awareness and support for families facing similar journeys.
