Bruno Mars Breaks Silence on Taylor Swift

Bruno Mars shut down speculation that he threw shade at Taylor Swift, telling fans the pop superstar has “always been supportive and kind” to him after a screenshot appeared to show he liked a post calling her “talentless.”

The 40-year-old “Locked Out of Heaven” singer addressed the controversy on Sunday on X, formerly Twitter, after screenshots circulated online suggesting he had liked an Instagram reel featuring footage of Swift performing on her Eras Tour accompanied by disparaging remarks about the 36-year-old singer-songwriter.

“Taylor has always been supportive and kind to me,” Mars wrote on X. “Only love over here.”

Minutes later, he followed up with another message urging positivity: “Spread love on these apps!”

The controversy erupted after Pop Faction, an entertainment news aggregator, reported that Mars had liked a post showing Swift dancing onstage. The post, which asked “Genuinely how did she get famous?” went on to make inflammatory claims about the billionaire artist. USA TODAY reported it could not independently verify that Mars actually liked the content or determine the origin of the post and its author.

Pop Flop later clarified that the Instagram post contained an edited screenshot falsely designed to appear as though it came from the official X account of South Korean boy band BTS. No such post was ever made by the group’s verified account, but the fabricated content still generated significant attention, racking up 10,000 likes, 1,000 retweets, 1.7 million views and 345 comments before the controversy was addressed.

Despite Mars’ swift response defending Swift, many fans remained unconvinced and criticized the Grammy winner in the comments section of his posts. Some questioned whether his clarification was genuine or simply damage control after facing backlash.

The timing of the alleged social media incident proved particularly noteworthy given recent developments in both artists’ careers. Mars recently replaced Swift at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart in January, when his single “I Just Might” ended Swift’s impressive 10-week run at number one with “The Fate of Ophelia” from her album “The Life of a Showgirl.”

Swift has not publicly commented on the alleged social media diss. She remains focused on planning her wedding to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. The couple, who announced their engagement on Instagram in August 2025, are reportedly set to marry on June 13, 2026 at the Ocean House in Rhode Island.

This isn’t the first time Mars and Swift have been linked in chart-related banter. In November 2021, Mars and his Silk Sonic bandmate Anderson.Paak joked about Swift beating them to the number one spot on the album charts when “An Evening with Silk Sonic” debuted at number two behind “Red (Taylor’s Version).”.Paak humorously tweeted at the time about linking up with “the wrong pop star,” while Mars playfully responded with a photoshopped image of.Paak on Swift’s “1989” album cover.

Swift herself expressed interest in collaborating with Mars during a 2011 interview with Z100’s Elvis Duran, recalling a conversation they had at the Met Gala. She mentioned approaching him about writing together and said he enthusiastically agreed to meet up on the road—though that collaboration has yet to materialize.

Mars is currently preparing for his massive world tour promoting his fourth solo studio album “The Romantic,” which dropped on February 27, 2026. The tour kicks off on April 10, 2026 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas and will feature support acts including.Paak as DJ Pee.Wee, Leon Thomas, Victoria Monét, and Raye.

The singer most recently performed at the 2026 Grammy Awards, where he delivered performances of “APT.” with ROSÉ and “I Just Might” from his new album. He received three Grammy nominations—Song of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, and Record of the Year—all for his collaboration with ROSÉ.

The incident serves as the latest example of how quickly social media rumors can spread and the challenges artists face navigating online discourse. With Swift’s net worth reaching $2 billion according to Forbes’ March 2026 update and her continued dominance in the music industry, she remains one of the most talked-about figures in pop culture, making any perceived slight against her newsworthy among fans and media outlets alike.

For now, Mars appears eager to put the controversy behind him and maintain his longstanding respect for Swift as both artists continue their respective career trajectories. Neither representative for Mars nor Swift has provided additional comment beyond the singer’s social media statements.
