Legendary Movie Star Dead at 86

Chuck Norris, the renowned martial artist and action film star who rose to cultural fame through tough-guy roles and online legend, has died at 86 after being taken to a hospital in Hawaii earlier this week.

The family of the “Walker, Texas Ranger” star announced his death on Friday, March 20, 2026, via an emotional Instagram post, saying Norris passed Thursday morning surrounded by family following a sudden medical emergency on Kauai.

No official cause of death has been disclosed. According to reports from TMZ, after being admitted on Wednesday, Norris was reportedly in good spirits, joking with a friend over the phone.

Just over a week before his passing, Norris posted video sparring with a boxing trainer to mark his 86th birthday on March 10, demonstrating he remained active and fit into his eighties.

He closed the birthday post with a sincere thank-you to his fans for their decades of support, saying it “meant more” to him than they would ever know. Notably, Norris was training on Kauai the same day he experienced the medical emergency that led to hospitalization.

Norris began his acting career in the late 1960s after gaining recognition as a champion martial artist. He became widely known for films such as “Silent Rage,” “The Delta Force,” and “Expendables 2,” and achieved lasting fame as the lead of “Walker, Texas Ranger.”

Although he reduced his workload in later years, Norris stayed involved in the industry. He appears in the forthcoming action comedy “Zombie Plane,” due later this year, alongside Vanilla Ice, Ice-T, Cody Simpson, and Sophie Monk, portraying a fictionalized version of himself.

On the set of “Zombie Plane,” he was frequently seen lifting weights between scenes and urging cast members to join him. Insiders described him as an inspiring presence for the production.

“People want to see more of that. They want Chuck to do more movies, and the studios are all for it,” the insider said. “He’s going to continue pushing himself to the max because that’s how he does things.”

The family’s statement celebrated the wide-reaching influence Norris had on people around the globe.

“He lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved,” they wrote. “Through his work, discipline, and kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a lasting impact on so many lives.”

The family acknowledged the flood of support after news of his hospitalization, expressing gratitude for the prayers offered during his final days.

They requested privacy as they mourned, closing their message with a simple note: “Thank you for loving him with us.”

Beyond movies and TV, Norris became a surprising internet phenomenon in the 2000s when “Chuck Norris facts” — tongue-in-cheek claims of superhuman feats — went viral, boosting his legendary reputation and winning him new fans.

Norris is survived by his wife, Gena O’Kelley, and five children: Mike, 63, Dina, 61, Eric, 60, and twins Danilee and Dakota, 24. Funeral plans have not yet been announced.
