Today Show Host VANISHES Without Explanation

Jenna Bush Hager vanished from the “Today” show this week, sending millions of NBC viewers scrambling for answers. Where had the beloved fourth-hour co-host gone? The answer, revealed Monday morning by co-host Sheinelle Jones, proved far less dramatic than many feared: the 44-year-old television personality was simply enjoying a well-deserved spring break with her family.

Bush Hager is spending the week away from Studio 1A with husband Henry Hager and their three children—daughters Mila and Poppy, and son Hal. The timing couldn’t be better. The mother of three rarely takes extended time off from her demanding morning television schedule, and this marks the first significant break either she or Jones has taken since the newly revamped show launched in January.

In Bush Hager’s absence, NBC assembled an impressive roster of celebrity guest co-hosts to join Jones throughout the week. Internet personality Justin Sylvester kicked things off Monday—despite nearly missing his on-air debut due to a chaotic cross-country journey.

Sylvester flew the red-eye from Los Angeles to New York after covering the Oscars in California on Sunday. Landing just over two hours before showtime, the E! News correspondent faced an additional hurdle when his car got pulled over on the way to the studio. “Girl, I brushed my teeth in the back of a car!” Sylvester told Jones on air.

The morning show veteran also confessed to name-dropping during the traffic stop, joking that he told police he was Craig Melvin to avoid a ticket.

Following Sylvester’s Monday appearance, the show welcomes model Ashley Graham on Tuesday, actress Nia Long on Wednesday, and actor Darren Criss on Thursday. Sylvester returns Friday, March 20, to close out the rotation.

The parade of guest hosts represents familiar territory for Bush Hager. She spent nearly a year hosting with more than 60 different co-hosts on “Today with Jenna & Friends” following Hoda Kotb’s departure from the show in January 2025. Bush Hager compared that experience to “dating” as NBC searched for the perfect permanent co-host.

Jones was announced as Bush Hager’s permanent co-host on December 9, 2025, making her debut on January 12, 2026. The longtime NBC journalist had taken an extended leave of absence beginning in December 2024 to care for her husband, Uche Ojeh, during his battle with brain cancer. Ojeh died on May 23, 2025, at age 45. Jones returned to “Today” in September 2025, four months after his passing.

The mother of three has openly discussed navigating her grief while continuing her role on the morning show. “He was rooting for me all along. I owe it to him to keep going,” Jones previously told PEOPLE.

Bush Hager’s absence comes during a challenging period for the broader “Today” show family. Savannah Guthrie remains away from the early morning hours following the abduction of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, from her Arizona home on February 1. The 84-year-old has not been located, and the investigation remains ongoing. Both Jones and Kotb have been filling in for Guthrie alongside Craig Melvin during the first hour of “Today.”

While Guthrie has expressed her intention to return to NBC’s morning show, network officials have not announced a specific return date.

Additionally, Al Roker was missing from Studio 1A on Monday, with Dylan Dreyer filling in while reporting live from the 2026 Players Championship in Florida.

Despite the shuffling of hosts, “Today” continues to demonstrate the strength of NBC’s deep bench of talent. The network’s ability to seamlessly rotate guest co-hosts speaks to the relationships Bush Hager built during her year-long search for Kotb’s replacement.

Bush Hager is expected to return to “Today with Jenna & Sheinelle” the week of March 23, refreshed from her family vacation and ready to resume her duties alongside Jones in the show’s popular fourth hour.
