J.Lo Takes Desperate Action to Forget Ben Affleck

Jennifer Lopez is making it very clear that she’s closing the book on her marriage to Ben Affleck — and she’s doing it one ink stroke at a time. The “Jenny From The Block” singer turned heads over Memorial Day weekend 2025 with a series of social media posts that revealed she has quietly altered the matching tattoo she once got in honor of her ex-husband.

The 56-year-old superstar shared photos from her holiday celebrations, including a white bikini snap and a second image showing her in a flowing white dress with a low-cut back. That second photo, in which she lovingly wrapped her arms around her 18-year-old son Max, gave fans their clearest look yet at the cover-up job on the right side of her ribcage.

A Quiet Tweak to a Very Public Tribute

The original tattoo — an infinity symbol with an arrow running through it, flanked by the couple’s names in small lettering — was inked back in 2023 as a Valentine’s Day tribute to Affleck. Lopez shared the artwork on Instagram at the time with a now-deleted post.

“Commitment…Happy Valentine’s Day my love,” she wrote alongside an infinity emoji.

Fast-forward to today, and that tribute looks a little different. In the Memorial Day photos, Lopez appears to have subtly scribbled out Affleck’s name with additional black ink, blurring his half of the design while leaving her own name intact. It’s a small change, but a symbolic one — and eagle-eyed fans were quick to spot the alteration.

Affleck, for his part, also got a matching design after their July 2022 Las Vegas wedding. His features two crossed arrows with the letter “J” above and “B” below. Whether the actor has made any tweaks of his own remains unknown.

A Sweet Moment With Son Max

While the tattoo update has dominated headlines, the warmest part of the post was arguably the family moment at its center. Lopez was photographed gazing up adoringly at Max, the 18-year-old son she shares with ex-husband Marc Anthony. The flowing white dress, with its dramatically low back, framed the moment beautifully — and just happened to give followers a clear view of the freshly modified ink.

It’s the kind of mother-son snapshot Lopez has shared often over the years, but this one carried added meaning given everything she has been navigating publicly.

The Long Road From Gigli to ‘Nightmare’ Divorce

Lopez and Affleck’s romance has been one of Hollywood’s most-followed love stories for more than two decades. The two first met while filming “Gigli” in 2002, got engaged, and then called it quits in January 2004. They famously rekindled their relationship in 2021, tied the knot in Las Vegas in July 2022, and seemed determined to give their second chapter a happy ending.

That ending didn’t come. The pair split in August 2024, and their divorce was finalized in January 2025. Sources have described the split as a “nightmare,” with much of the drama playing out behind the scenes and some of it spilling into public view.

One of the trickiest pieces of the puzzle has been the $60 million mansion the couple purchased with plans to share. After dropping the price and pulling it from the market, Affleck eventually sold his shares of the property to Lopez. Insiders say the move was part of his effort to close out their entanglements for good.

“He really just wants this to be sold so that he can cut the final cord that keeps him and Jennifer intertwined,” a source close to the situation told Hello Magazine.

Moving On, Onstage and Online

The tattoo tweak fits into a broader pattern from Lopez over the last several months. The singer has been working through the breakup very publicly — releasing breakup songs, cracking jokes about the divorce during her live performances, and leaning into a fresh-start narrative that fans seem ready to cheer on.

It’s a notable shift from the early days of her relationship with Affleck, when Lopez was famously open about her affection for the actor — even if she wasn’t always a fan of his ink. She once weighed in on his large, multicolored phoenix back tattoo during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live,” and she didn’t mince words about it.

These days, Lopez seems focused squarely on the road ahead — and on the people who have been by her side throughout the journey, like Max. With the property settled, the divorce finalized, and now the tattoo quietly rewritten, the entertainer appears determined to write her next chapter on her own terms.

And if her Memorial Day post is any indication, she’s planning to do it with style, sunshine, and the people she loves most in frame.
