Savannah Guthrie broke a weeks-long social media silence on Father’s Day, sharing a tender photo of her husband and their two children — a small but meaningful public moment for a family navigating one of the most agonizing chapters of their lives, now five months since the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie.
The Today show anchor posted a photograph to Instagram on June 21 showing her husband, Michael Feldman, lying in bed with the couple’s two children — daughter Vale, 11, and son Charles, 9. The caption was brief but spoke volumes: “Our hero. Happy Father’s Day.” Guthrie said the post signaled that life continues to move forward even in its most painful stretches.
A Family Leaning on Each Other
Savannah Guthrie and Michael Feldman have been together since 2009. The two first crossed paths in 2008 at Feldman’s 40th birthday party and began dating the following year. They married in 2014 in a ceremony held just outside Tucson, Arizona — the same city where Savannah’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, had made her home and where she was last seen on January 31.
Nancy, 84, was reported missing on February 1. Authorities believe she was taken from her home against her will. Drops of her blood were discovered on the front porch, and on February 10, the FBI released surveillance footage showing a masked man at her doorstep on the night she vanished. Despite hundreds of hours of surveillance footage being reviewed by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department — including footage from a Ring camera about 2.5 miles from the home that captured 12 vehicles passing around the time of the disappearance — the investigation has produced no definitive leads or suspects. A $1 million reward for information leading to Nancy’s recovery has been offered by the family.
Savannah’s Emotional Return to Work
Savannah Guthrie took a leave of absence in the immediate aftermath of her mother’s disappearance but returned to the Today show on April 6. The decision prompted understandable public curiosity, and on June 8, she addressed it candidly during a conversation with her co-host, Jenna Bush Hager. Guthrie said returning to work was two hours of her day that brought her joy, though she acknowledged it was not easy and she had never stopped thinking about her mother. Bush Hager told her, “And neither have we. We have your back and be with you forever with this. We will never forget.” Savannah also urged the public to keep praying and to come forward with any information they might have.
On June 19, Savannah was absent from the Today broadcast, and co-anchor Craig Melvin explained to viewers that she had stepped away to begin production meetings for a new game show called World, set to air on NBC later this year. The half-hour program, executive produced by Jimmy Fallon and hosted by Savannah, will be produced by The New York Times. It had been in development for roughly two and a half years, with a pilot filmed last year. The production team had already pushed back filming once in deference to the family’s crisis. Principal filming is now set to take place in Manchester, England.
Vigil at the Tucson Home
The Father’s Day post was not Savannah’s first return to public expression since her mother’s disappearance. On March 2, she and her sister Annie Guthrie, accompanied by Annie’s husband Tommaso Cioni, were seen at their mother’s Tucson-area home for the first time since Nancy vanished. The three walked arm-in-arm down the driveway and placed yellow flowers at a makeshift tribute that had grown at the edge of the property, featuring ribbons, crosses, handwritten prayers, a sign reading “Let Nancy Come Home,” and a statuette of an angel. Nancy’s home has since been turned back over to the family, with “No trespassing” signs now posted on the property.
Later that same day, Savannah posted a photo of the flowers and wrote that the family felt the warmth and support of the Tucson community and people across the country, pleading with followers not to stop praying and to help bring her mother home.
Trump’s Odd Father’s Day Post Draws Attention
While Savannah’s Father’s Day tribute drew warmth and sympathy, President Donald Trump’s own Father’s Day post on Truth Social generated a very different kind of attention. The president shared a photo of a woman later identified online as Margo Catsimatidis, the wife of billionaire Trump ally John Catsimatidis. The caption read, “Great daughter. My Honor!!! President DJT.” The image appeared to have been taken at Camp David during the Clinton administration, with the state seal of Arkansas visible in the frame. The White House did not respond to requests for comment explaining the post. Andrea Catsimatidis, the couple’s daughter and Manhattan Republican Party chairwoman, subsequently responded publicly to the unusual tribute to her mother.
As for Savannah Guthrie, the investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance continues with authorities still searching for answers. The family has maintained a public presence, leaning on community support and urging anyone with knowledge of Nancy’s whereabouts to come forward.
