Cody Simpson Shares Frightening Health Update

Australian pop singer Cody Simpson is on crutches and under strict orders to stay silent after a pair of serious injuries left him unable to walk or talk, derailing his long-awaited musical comeback and forcing surgery on his vocal cords to be pushed back. Simpson, 29, went public with the alarming double setback in an Instagram post late last month, revealing the full scope of a health crisis that had quietly been building for months.

The Australian native had spent close to three months cycling on and off vocal rest after suffering a hemorrhage on a blood vessel on the underside of his right vocal cord — an injury he traced to working too hard in the studio while unknowingly singing through a sinus infection. He initially dismissed the warning signs as fatigue and kept returning to record until he lost his voice entirely. Doctors eventually determined that surgery was necessary to aid recovery. Then, before that procedure could take place, things got dramatically worse.

A Knee Dislocation Caught on Camera

While rehearsing choreography for a new music video, Simpson collapsed mid-dance and crumpled to the floor, grabbing his right knee in agony and crawling before the clip cut out. The moment was captured on video and shared in the same Instagram post, offering a visceral look at the injury. A subsequent clip showed his doctor walking through the damage to his right knee. The dislocation immediately complicated the medical timeline: with his leg now requiring time to stabilize, surgeons pushed back the vocal cord procedure, leaving Simpson contending with two major injuries simultaneously — unable to bear weight or produce sound.

“The universe is serving it to me this year!” Simpson wrote in the post, accompanied by a photo of himself in a knee brace and on crutches. He acknowledged that the situation had stripped him of two of the things most central to his professional life. “I can’t walk or talk for some time now, and no singing or dancing for months to come,” he wrote.

Months of Vocal Trouble Preceded the Setback

The vocal cord problems first emerged earlier this year. In May, Simpson disclosed on Instagram that a serious hemorrhage had been found on one of his vocal cords. He addressed the situation publicly, explaining he had originally hoped to keep the matter private but was compelled to speak after canceling television and radio appearances tied to his single “Baby Blue.” Simpson explained that a damaged blood vessel was discovered beneath his right vocal cord, and that his doctors initially hoped two weeks of complete silence might allow him to avoid surgery, which would have required a much longer recovery period.

The bleeding subsided after treatment, but the damaged vessel itself remained a problem, making surgery increasingly likely. However, the knee injury threw everything off course. Simpson found himself dealing with both conditions at the same time, with his vocal cord operation delayed while his knee stabilized.

Album and Tour Plans on Hold

The setback comes at a particularly difficult time for Simpson, who had been gaining traction ahead of his first studio album since his 2022 record “Cody Simpson.” He had stepped away from music for an extended period to train for Olympic swimming, but returned to the industry in March with two new singles, “Baby Blue” and “When It Comes to Loving You.” The new album had been expected to follow.

Both the album release and any associated live shows are now delayed. Simpson said that even while recovering, he has been working in the studio where possible — silently writing lyrics with collaborators and sketching out vocal melodies on guitar, planning to record them properly once doctors clear him to sing.

In a moment of characteristic defiance, Simpson confirmed that the music video shoot went ahead despite everything. “FYI, we still shot the music video,” he added, a remark that prompted an outpouring of support from fans urging him to prioritize rest.

Simpson Calls It ‘Forced Rest’

Rather than expressing despair, Simpson framed the experience as an overdue reckoning with years of relentless self-pressure. He acknowledged that he had spent years driving himself relentlessly through both athletic and musical endeavors, and suggested that these consecutive injuries were compelling him to pause and take stock in ways he had resisted doing on his own. “For years, I’ve pushed myself constantly without stopping, and now I’m being made to pause and see this situation clearly: it’s rest that’s been imposed on me,” he wrote. He expressed confidence that the recovery period, however extended, would ultimately make him stronger — both physically and creatively. Fans responded warmly, with many noting they were prepared to wait as long as necessary for his return, and urging him to prioritize his health above any release schedule.
