The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said detectives believe a 63-year-old Orlando man fatally stabbed his 17-year-old twins inside the family’s apartment before killing himself, according to a news release issued Friday, Oct. 2, 2026. Deputies found Ivan Montiel Roa and his children, Carlo Montiel Infantino and Melanie Montiel Infantino, dead inside the residence Wednesday, Sept. 30.
The deaths came to light only after a neighbor grew worried. The neighbor had not seen the family in about a week and called 911, prompting deputies to respond to the 1200 block of Courtney Chase Circle for a well-being check. The address sits in the Hunter’s Creek area of Orange County, on a street running between Town Center Boulevard and State Road 417.
What Deputies Found Inside the Apartment
Inside, deputies came upon the bodies of the two teenagers in the living room. Both had suffered multiple stab wounds, the sheriff’s office said. Montiel Roa was found in the master bedroom.
“At this time, detectives believe Ivan murdered Carlo and Melanie and then committed suicide,” authorities said.
Investigators have not said when they believe the killings took place, and they have not disclosed how the father died. The sheriff’s office has characterized the case as an apparent homicide-suicide.
A Lawmaker Who Lives Nearby
Florida Rep. Rita Harris, who lives near the Courtney Chase Apartment Homes, where the family lived, said the deaths were impossible to process. “There are no words that can make sense of a loss like this,” Harris said. She added that her thoughts were also with first responders and law enforcement officers who serve the community.
The complex is a sprawling residential community in a part of Orange County dotted with apartment homes, shopping and quick access to the 417 toll road — the kind of place where neighbors say they notice when a familiar car stops moving or a door stops opening. In this case, that observation is what brought deputies to the door.
What Is Known About the Family
Montiel Roa’s wife, the mother of Carlo and Melanie, died in June, according to public records. Her obituary says the family was from Venezuela.
Montiel Roa worked as a realtor, according to his Facebook page, and he also had a construction business that was dissolved Sept. 25. On Facebook, he reposted conspiracy theories and sentiments about a “new world order,” including a December 2025 post that appeared to borrow a line from the 2008 film “The Dark Knight.”
Authorities have drawn no connection between any of that background and the deaths, and they have offered no explanation for what happened inside the apartment.
Investigation Remains Open
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has not released a motive, and the investigation remains ongoing. Detectives have not made public an official incident report, autopsy findings or any other forensic determinations tied to the case, and no additional details about the circumstances leading up to the deaths have been released.
There has also been no information released about memorial services, surviving relatives or what comes next in the case. For now, the sheriff’s office account remains the fullest public record of what deputies encountered Sept. 30: two 17-year-olds dead in a living room, their father dead in another room, and a neighbor’s uneasy phone call as the only reason anyone knew to look.
