A mass shooting in Chicago’s River North district left one man dead and three others critically wounded after four gunmen opened fire on victims getting into a vehicle.
The shooting occurred at 2:35 a.m. in the 400 block of North LaSalle Drive, near Hubbard Street. The four victims were in the process of entering their car when four gunmen approached on foot, pulled out weapons and opened fire before fleeing in a vehicle.
A 34-year-old man who suffered multiple gunshot wounds was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Three other men were taken to the same hospital in critical condition: a 36-year-old man shot in the chest, a 43-year-old man shot in the back, and a 35-year-old man who was shot multiple times.
Chicago police focused much of their investigation on a green Lamborghini at the scene. The vehicle, a Lamborghini Urus valued at $320,000, was surrounded by evidence markers as investigators worked to piece together the sequence of events.
Witnesses heard multiple gunshots in the early morning hours.
Elias Ylonen and Katarina Kerner, European visitors staying with a relative in a nearby condominium, witnessed the aftermath of the shooting. “This is something that would be a national headline if it happened in Finland,” Ylonen said. The pair observed the heavy police response, with emergency vehicles lining LaSalle Drive throughout the morning.
Data shows there have been 41 shootings on the Near North Side in 2025, a significant increase from 26 shootings in the same area during 2024.
Despite the presence of numerous security cameras in the area, police have not released any description of the vehicle the gunmen used to escape or details about their appearance. No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
Cook County Crime Stoppers moved quickly to announce a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case. Paul Rutherford, executive director of Cook County Crime Stoppers, emphasized the severity of the attack.
“This was a brazen and violent act that took one life and left three others fighting for their lives,” Rutherford said in a news release. “Someone knows who is responsible. Your information, no matter how small it may seem, could be the key to bringing justice to the victims and their families.”
Rutherford stressed that tipsters can provide information anonymously and still be eligible for the cash reward. Those with information can call 1-800-535-STOP.
Area detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The location of the attack, in the River North district, has raised concerns among residents and business owners about safety in the neighborhood.
The investigation remains active as police work to identify the four suspects and determine a motive for the attack. Authorities are reviewing footage from security cameras in the vicinity and interviewing potential witnesses who may have been in the area during the early morning hours when the shooting took place.
