Trump Breaks Rules With Invented Government Position

President Donald Trump has nominated a MAGA ally to serve as U.S. special envoy to Greenland, prompting an angry response from Denmark as the president continues to pursue control of the largely self-governing Danish territory.

The appointment of a special envoy to Greenland represents an unprecedented diplomatic move, with Denmark and Greenland demanding respect for their borders following the announcement. Trump has repeatedly stated that Greenland should be under U.S. control, making the envoy position a focal point of international tension.

The creation of this diplomatic post breaks with conventional government positions, signaling continued interest in the Arctic territory.

Meanwhile, the Justice Department on Tuesday released a third batch of records related to Jeffrey Epstein, comprising 30,000 pages of documents. The release sheds light on the convicted sex offender’s connections to prominent figures.

Among the revelations, flight records indicate that Trump traveled on Epstein’s private jet at least eight times between 1993 and 1996. The documents were released as part of an ongoing effort to provide transparency regarding Epstein’s network of associates and alleged co-conspirators.

Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence for her role in Epstein’s sex trafficking operation, features prominently in the released documents. Maxwell was convicted on federal charges related to Epstein’s trafficking network.

The documents also reference Prince Andrew and Virginia Giuffre, who died by suicide in April. Giuffre had previously made allegations regarding Epstein’s trafficking network.

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer announced Monday he will introduce a resolution for legal action over what he characterized as a partial release of the Epstein files. The senator’s move comes amid criticism regarding the documents.

In foreign policy developments, Trump on Monday evening at Mar-a-Lago, Florida, said it would be smart for Nicolas Maduro to step down from power in Venezuela. “I think it would be smart for him to do that,” Trump stated, directly addressing questions about whether forcing Maduro from power was his administration’s ultimate goal.

The president’s comments came as the U.S. has positioned 15,000 troops in the Caribbean, building up military presence in the region. The deployment represents a significant show of force directed at Venezuela as tensions escalate between the two nations. “The pressure is working, and it will continue to work,” Trump added.

Trump also unveiled a $12 billion aid package for farmers, addressing financial pressures facing the agricultural sector amid ongoing trade and economic challenges.

On Monday, the president announced a new generation of warships for the U.S. Navy, designating them as Trump-class battleships. Construction will begin with two battleships named USS Defiant, with plans to eventually expand the fleet to 20 to 25 new vessels.

Navy Secretary John Phelan emphasized the strategic significance of the new class of warships during the announcement.

In immigration enforcement, data shows that as of December 14, 2025, more than 68,400 people were in ICE detention, representing a record high for immigration detention in the United States.

The Trump administration also halted offshore windfarm projects, marking the heaviest blow yet to an industry that has faced relentless targeting throughout the year.

Additionally, the administration recalled nearly 30 ambassadors from their overseas posts. The diplomatic shuffle affects career foreign service officers, signaling a break from standard diplomatic protocol.

The convergence of these policy actions—from territorial ambitions in Greenland to military positioning near Venezuela and the restructuring of diplomatic posts—illustrates the administration’s willingness to depart from established norms across multiple areas of governance. The international community continues to respond with a mixture of concern and opposition to several of these initiatives, particularly those affecting long-standing alliances and territorial sovereignty.
