Barron Trump, 19, placed an urgent call to London police last year after witnessing a woman being assaulted during a FaceTime call, testimony in a London courtroom has revealed this week. The youngest son of President Donald Trump contacted emergency services on January 18, 2025, after the 22-year-old woman reached out to him while allegedly being attacked by her former boyfriend.
The incident unfolded at 2:30 AM local time in London when the woman FaceTimed Trump during what prosecutors describe as a violent assault by Matvei Rumiantsev, 22, at her residence in east London. Trump, who was 18 years old at the time and in the United States, witnessed the assault and immediately contacted London’s emergency services at 2:23 AM London time, which was 9:30 PM Eastern time in the U.S.
A transcript of the emergency call, released by prosecutors at Snaresbrook Crown Court, captures Trump’s urgency as he tried to get help for the woman. He told the operator he had just received a call from a girl he knew who was being beaten up, according to the transcript. He provided the woman’s address in Poplar, east London, and emphasized the severity of the situation, stressing that it was really an emergency.
The call transcript reveals a tense exchange between Trump and the emergency operator, who pressed him for details about how he knew the woman and the nature of their relationship. When asked repeatedly for information he felt was unnecessary given the emergency, Trump responded with frustration. The operator eventually told him to stop being rude and actually answer the questions. Trump, who stands 6 feet 7 inches tall, apologized for being rude and explained that he had met the woman on social media.
Police responded to the woman’s address in London following Trump’s call. Body-worn camera footage played in court shows officers informing the woman that someone from the United States had contacted them. The woman told police that Barron Trump is Donald Trump’s son, helping officers understand the unusual circumstances of receiving an emergency call from across the Atlantic. When officers asked her to call Trump back to confirm the details, she reached him and he explained what he had witnessed during the brief FaceTime call.
Trump described the woman as someone he is very close with in communications with investigators. In an email to police dated May 2, he provided additional details about what he saw during the call, which he said lasted 10 to 15 seconds. He wrote that he had been told by the woman that the man was giving her difficulty for a long time. Trump told investigators that his body was racing with adrenaline after witnessing the assault.
The woman later testified in court that Trump’s intervention had saved her life. “He helped save my life,” she said, according to testimony at Snaresbrook Crown Court. “That call was like a sign from God at that moment.”
The case has drawn attention to the relationship between Trump and the woman, which has become a focal point of the trial. Rumiantsev, who is 6 feet 6 inches tall, testified that he was jealous of the friendship between his then-girlfriend and Trump. During questioning at the trial, Rumiantsev admitted he was jealous and told the court that the woman was leading Barron on. He claimed the woman’s interactions with Trump had been a source of tension in their relationship.
Evidence presented to jurors included messages in which the woman called Barron sweetheart. Rumiantsev confirmed to the court that this affectionate nickname had caused disagreements between the couple. He said that a message he sent to the woman could be translated as expressing that he felt unwell when she started calling Trump sweetheart.
The incident occurred two days before Trump’s inauguration as president. On the same evening as the assault, Barron Trump was attending a private reception and fireworks display at Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia, as part of the inauguration weekend festivities. Earlier that day, he had been photographed in Florida boarding an Air Force aircraft with his parents, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. The Trump family reportedly spent that night at Blair House, the official guest residence located across from the White House.
Rumiantsev faces multiple charges in connection with the alleged assault and other incidents. He has been charged with two counts of rape, assault, intentional strangulation, actual bodily harm, and perverting the course of justice. Rumiantsev denies all charges against him. He is being represented by Sasha Wass KC, one of London’s prominent lawyers who previously represented The Sun newspaper in its libel case against actor Johnny Depp.
During his testimony, Rumiantsev offered his own account of the events of January 18, 2025. He told the court that Trump had been persistently FaceTiming the woman throughout the day and evening. He explained that due to the time difference between the United States and the United Kingdom, Trump would call in the morning his time and then again in the evening after sleeping. Rumiantsev claimed he finally answered one of Trump’s calls around 9:30 PM Eastern time because he thought it might help calm the situation during a drunken argument between him and his girlfriend.
The trial has also examined earlier incidents in the relationship. Prosecutors presented evidence about a November 3, 2024, incident when the woman called police alleging that Rumiantsev broke her air fryer. Body-worn camera recordings from that date captured her describing Rumiantsev as jealous and controlling of who she could be friends with.
The case comes as Barron Trump, who attends New York University, continues to maintain a largely private life despite being the son of the president. Trump has rarely been seen at public events and has kept a low profile throughout his father’s political career. The emergence of this case has brought unusual attention to his personal life and relationships, revealing details about friendships he has formed through social media with people outside the United States.
The ongoing trial in London continues to examine the allegations against Rumiantsev and the circumstances surrounding the January 2025 incident. The White House has not commented on Barron Trump’s involvement in the case or the details that have emerged during courtroom testimony.
