Jeopardy! Host Stuns Audience With Explosive Comments

A 37-year-old mother of three was shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in Minneapolis on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. Multiple witnesses described the fatal shooting as occurring while Renee Nicole Good was reversing her Honda Pilot away from federal agents. The incident took place during the largest immigration enforcement operation ever carried out, with 2,000 agents deployed to the Minneapolis area, has sparked national outrage and prompted calls to abolish federal immigration enforcement agencies.

The incident drew swift condemnation from prominent public figures, including Ken Jennings, the 51-year-old host of Jeopardy! Jennings posted statements on Bluesky beginning January 6, writing “America is always like ‘ok, but the NEXT regime change will work,’ like when I ‘cut out carbs’ briefly every January,” followed by “The ‘prosecute the former regime at every level’ candidate has my vote in 2028.”

On January 7, Jennings wrote: “It’s been a dark week, but I just saw someone reply to an ‘Abolish ICE’ post with a scoldy Bluesky ‘Uh, try abolish DHS’ and that joy will sustain me for a little while.” Jennings also reposted messages reading “The murderer’s name is Jonathan Ross,” linking to the Star Tribune’s identification of the officer. He later wrote about managing responses to his posts: “I’ve been a-blockin’ and a-mutin’ all afternoon, but I want everyone to know that I never block for this reply, though the universe gives me multiple opportunities every day.”

Good was returning from dropping off her six-year-old son at school when she and her current partner encountered ICE agents during an immigration enforcement operation. The Minnesota Star Tribune identified the officer who opened fire as Jonathan Ross, a 43-year-old Iraq War veteran who had been dragged by a fleeing driver in a separate incident six months earlier. Ross shot Good three times in rapid succession—firing shots just 399 milliseconds apart—striking her in the head and face as she attempted to drive away, causing her Honda Pilot to crash into a parked car three seconds later.

Video evidence from multiple angles shows Good’s SUV reversing slightly before moving forward with wheels turned sharply to the right, away from the officers. Policing experts questioned Ross filming the encounter with his cellphone while holding his gun, with one criminology professor stating: “If you are an officer who views this woman as a threat, you don’t have one hand on a cellphone.” While DHS Secretary Kristi Noem claimed the agent was struck by the vehicle and treated at a hospital, she declined to answer whether the officer opened fire before or after allegedly being struck.

Minneapolis mayor Jacob Frey called the federal claims “****” after viewing the video footage, telling ICE to “get the **** out of Minneapolis.” The Department of Homeland Security characterized the incident as an “act of domestic terrorism,” claiming Good “weaponized her vehicle.” Vice President JD Vance echoed this framing, calling Good’s death “a tragedy of her own making” and alleging she was “part of a broader left-wing network” organized to attack ICE officers.

Good’s ex-husband told reporters she was not an activist and had no knowledge of her participating in protests, while City Council member Jason Chavez described Good as a U.S. citizen who was “an observer… watching out for our immigrant neighbors.” Born in Colorado, Good graduated from Old Dominion University in 2020 with an English degree and was a mother of three children: a 15-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son from her first marriage, and a six-year-old son whose father died in 2023. Her wife described her as living “by an overarching belief: there is kindness in the world” and as “a Christian who knew that all religions teach the same essential truth.”

The shooting occurred after Good and her wife stopped “to support our neighbors” with whistles while federal agents “had guns,” according to Good’s wife, who added: “I am now left to raise our son and to continue teaching him, as Renee believed, that there are people building a better world for him.”

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz criticized federal authorities on social media: “Trump sent thousands of armed federal officers into our state, and it took just one day for them to kill someone. Now he wants nothing more than to see chaos distract from that horrific action.” President Donald Trump called Good “a professional agitator” who “viciously ran over the ICE Officer.”

The shooting forced Minneapolis Public Schools to cancel classes for the remainder of the week and offer remote learning until February 12 due to ICE’s use of pepper spray at Roosevelt High School where officers handcuffed two staff members. Protests continued with over 1,000 demonstrators, though 30 people were arrested after a small group broke away and allegedly caused property damage to a hotel.

Federal authorities revoked Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension access to evidence, with Minnesota’s Public Safety Commissioner saying it would be “extremely difficult, if not impossible” for local investigation to continue “without cooperation from the federal government.” Good’s killing was the ninth time ICE agents had opened fire on people since September 2025, with four other people killed during federal deportation operations.

Protests spread nationwide with similar demonstrations in Los Angeles, New York, Washington DC, El Paso, and Boston, with more than 1,000 demonstrations planned by the “ICE out for good” national coalition. An online fundraiser for Good’s family closed after reaching more than $1.5 million in donations, which will be placed in a trust fund.

Good’s death occurred about one mile from where George Floyd was murdered in 2020, bringing renewed attention to other incidents, including an off-duty ICE officer’s fatal shooting of Keith Porter Jr. a week earlier. Governor Walz proclaimed January 9, 2026, to be “Renee Good Day.” Good’s wife faces raising their six-year-old son, who has already lost his father, while continuing to teach him “as Renee believed, that there are people building a better world for him.”
