Barron Trump, the 19-year-old son of President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, has found himself at the center of controversy following revelations about his connections to controversial influencer Andrew Tate and figures within the online “manosphere” community.
A New York Times investigation found that the president’s youngest son cultivated a relationship with Andrew Tate starting in 2024. Tate, a former kickboxer who calls himself the “king of toxic masculinity,” faces serious criminal charges in multiple countries. Romanian prosecutors have charged him with rape and human trafficking, while British authorities have brought 21 charges against the brothers, including rape, actual bodily harm, and human trafficking involving multiple women.
The connection between Barron Trump and the Tate circle came to light through Justin Waller, a Texas-born influencer who describes himself as the “third [Tate] brother.” Waller has openly discussed his friendship with the youngest Trump, claiming he has visited Mar-a-Lago four or five times and has positioned himself as a mentor to Barron.
“I had dinner with Barron at Mar-a-Lago. I met Donald that night,” Waller stated in the Netflix documentary “Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere.” The dinner took place in the spring of 2024, hosted by Barron himself at the Palm Beach resort.
Waller relocated from Louisiana to South Florida specifically to advance his career and gain access to the Trump family’s inner circle. His philosophy includes advocating for traditional gender hierarchies and what he terms “one-sided monogamy”—positions that align with the broader manosphere movement promoting male dominance.
The relationship between Barron and the Tate associates extends beyond casual acquaintance. According to Waller’s accounts to The New York Times, he and Barron spoke to Andrew Tate over Zoom while the teenager was having a suit fitted by Waller’s tailor. During the call, they discussed the Romanian criminal case against the Tate brothers. Waller claimed Barron did not explicitly offer to help with their legal troubles, though they discussed how the Tates could support Trump’s presidential campaign through their online platforms.
Andrew and Tristan Tate operated a webcam pornography business for about a decade, bragging about how they lured women into making sexual content for paying customers online while taking much of the profit. Romanian prosecutors allege they trafficked women using the “loverboy method”—feigning romantic interest to manipulate victims. Andrew Tate also faces allegations of rape and having sex with a minor. Both brothers deny all charges.
Criminal investigations into the Tate brothers began in 2022. Romanian courts barred them from leaving the country for years as prosecutors built their case. However, in February 2025, the Romanian government suddenly lifted the travel ban, allowing the brothers to board a private jet to Florida.
The timing of this shift raised eyebrows. Investigative reporter Megan Twohey of The New York Times reported that Richard Grenell, Trump’s diplomatic envoy, discussed the Tates’ case with Romanian officials on at least two occasions. Within days of the second conversation, Romanian authorities ordered prosecutors to reach a compromise with the brothers—something the prosecutors themselves opposed. Romania’s then-prime minister reportedly believed the move would appease the Trump administration.
The White House allegedly assisted the Tate brothers following the 2024 election. According to ProPublica, Paul Ingrassia—a former lawyer for the Tate brothers who became the White House’s DHS liaison—intervened after Customs and Border Protection seized the brothers’ electronic devices upon their arrival in Florida. Ingrassia reportedly demanded officials return the devices, claiming the directive came from the White House. His lawyer has denied the allegations. The incident triggered a Senate inquiry into potential interference with a federal investigation.
Andrew Tate has cultivated relationships with prominent American conservatives, including Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, and Donald Trump Jr., who posted online defending the brothers. Tate himself has claimed to be “very close to the Trump family.”
Barron’s alleged influence extends beyond personal friendships. Campaign officials credited the teenager with encouraging his father’s 2024 presidential campaign to embrace long-form podcasts and online personalities popular with young men—a strategy that became central to President Trump’s media outreach.
Waller acknowledged the strategic value of his relationship with the president’s son, telling The New York Times that Barron is “not a bad ally to have—let’s be frank.”
The youngest Trump was spotted at Mar-a-Lago on Christmas Day 2025, one of his few public appearances since the controversy emerged. Other manosphere figures have also claimed proximity to the Trump family, including Nicolas Kenn De Balinthazy, known online as Sneako, who attended the president’s inauguration and has made statements including that “women should not vote.”
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis publicly declared the Tate brothers unwelcome in his state after their February arrival, and the state attorney general launched a preliminary inquiry into them. The brothers face ongoing criminal proceedings in Romania and will be extradited to the United Kingdom once those conclude.
Barron Trump has not publicly commented on his relationships with Waller or the Tate brothers. He has not been accused of any wrongdoing, and there is no public evidence he directly intervened in the Tates’ legal matters. The 19-year-old—who turns 20 tomorrow—continues to maintain a largely private life while attending NYU’s Washington campus, though his connections to controversial online figures have thrust him into an uncomfortable public spotlight.
