Connor Murphy, a Texas-born bodybuilder and “looksmaxxing” influencer, died July 7 in an apparent drowning in Thailand. He was 32.
Authorities in the Samut Prakan province, located about 16 miles south of Bangkok, responded that afternoon to reports of a man behaving erratically at a luxury rental property. When officers arrived, Murphy fled and jumped into a nearby lake. He swam for several minutes before witnesses saw him grow exhausted and slip beneath the surface. Friends confirmed his death in posts across social media July 8.
A Chaotic Final Night
Murphy had hired a driver to take him back to the rental home when he began behaving strangely, offering the driver money and rolling around in the road. The situation escalated at the property, where Murphy argued with a security guard, attempted to flag down a passing car, shouted at the guard, and rolled on the ground before fleeing when police arrived. He then jumped into the 32-foot-deep lake on the property and did not resurface.
Rescue divers searched the water for roughly 30 minutes before recovering Murphy’s body about 66 feet from the bank. His body showed no signs of assault, and authorities have ordered an autopsy. Investigators suspect drowning as the cause of death.
Inside a bag in Murphy’s vehicle, investigators found two unused syringes and several white pills. When they searched the rental home, they discovered extensive vandalism — black and yellow paint smeared across walls and kitchen appliances, along with damaged furniture and decor. Murphy’s 22-year-old girlfriend, who had booked the property with him for three months, told authorities she had been asleep when the damage occurred and that the erratic behavior she witnessed was entirely out of character. She said she had no knowledge of any drug use on his part.
Who Connor Murphy Was
Murphy built his online presence around bodybuilding, fitness, and an identity he wore openly as a self-proclaimed “giga chad.” He amassed more than 2.7 million followers combined on YouTube and Instagram. His videos included physique displays, stunts, and comedy sketches, and he gained particular recognition for aggressive facial exercises he said enhanced his jawline.
Murphy identified with the “looksmaxxing” community, an online space where men adopt aggressive tactics to maximize their physical attractiveness, often linked to a creator called Clavicular. He chronicled his own approach extensively, including in a video titled “A Day in the Looksmaxxing Life of Mandibleus Zygomidus” that accumulated just under 120,000 views. His final YouTube upload, posted six days before his death, featured Murphy claiming he was “absorbing the spirit of Elon.”
In the months leading up to his death, Murphy had drawn growing concern from fans. He had begun posting increasingly strange videos — appearing in wizard costumes and describing hallucinations — a sharp departure from the fitness content that had defined his brand.
Final Days and Last Posts
Murphy appeared to have last updated his social media accounts July 3, sharing a lighthearted video of himself playing with a soccer ball inside a luxury home. In a separate, now-unsettling post from around the same period, he shared footage admiring the view from the rental property — a view that overlooked the same lake where he would later drown.
Murphy had been renting the home for around two months at the time of his death. The US Embassy in Thailand has reportedly been notified.
Tributes From Fellow Creators
Fellow content creator Jon Skywalker Brannon was among those who paid tribute after news of Murphy’s death spread. Writing on social media, Brannon reflected on their shared trajectory in a competitive and often unforgiving online space, saying he would always remember Murphy as the young creator who came up in the industry at the same time, thrust into a hostile digital landscape without support or mentorship.
Murphy’s death has prompted a wave of reflection among fans and fellow creators about the pressures of building an identity around physical perfection in an industry that offers little support. An autopsy has been ordered by Thai authorities to determine the official cause of death. No further findings have been released.
