Doctor Says Trump Experienced Serious Medical Issue

Renewed questions about the health of the nation’s oldest sitting president surged after California Gov. Gavin Newsom posted video from President Donald Trump’s West Coast swing on Tuesday, August 4, calling the Republican’s performance “a total snoozer” and saying Trump showed “Very low energy. No speech. He could barely take a question on the tarmac.”

The 14-second clip, shared Wednesday morning by Newsom’s press office, captured the 80-year-old commander in chief walking away from journalists at a California airport after offering a brief response about Rep. Max Miller, an Ohio MAGA lawmaker facing domestic violence and child abuse allegations from his former spouse. When a reporter mentioned Miller’s name, Trump turned, shrugged, said he hoped the congressman would remain in office and resolve the matter, then departed.

White House spokesperson Davis Ingle fired back at the Democratic governor, labeling him the nation’s most incompetent and unintelligent state leader. Ingle insisted Trump’s vigor, mental acuity and willingness to engage reporters contrasted sharply with the prior administration, accusing Democrats of concealing former President Joe Biden’s mental and physical deterioration while attacking Trump.

Physician Alleges Left-Sided Brain Stroke

The governor’s broadside arrived months after Dr. Bruce Davidson, who holds board certification in pulmonary and internal medicine and teaches at the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine at Washington State University, publicly asserted in January that Trump likely suffered a stroke, probably affecting the left side of his brain and most likely occurring sometime in 2025.

Davidson, who has never personally evaluated the president, constructed his diagnosis using publicly available footage and disclosed medical information. He cited a shuffling gait, garbled speech that subsequently improved, right-sided weakness and periods of daytime sleepiness. The professor also highlighted Trump’s disclosed daily 325 mg aspirin regimen, observing that such a dose ordinarily serves to prevent a second stroke rather than acting as a primary preventive tool. Davidson presented his analysis on “The Court of History” and “The Daily Beast Podcast,” as well as in an opinion piece.

Trump’s medical team has not confirmed any stroke, and the White House has flatly denied the allegation.

Fundraiser and Tax Event Mark Tuesday Itinerary

On Tuesday, the president flew west for a Republican National Committee donor gathering held at his Rancho Palos Verdes golf property, then continued to Nevada, where he promoted the administration’s tax relief initiatives at a rally held at the Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa.

Security incidents shadowed the visit. In the days leading up to Trump’s visit to the Southern California golf facility, authorities detained an individual who had been walking the grounds of the Rancho Palos Verdes estate with a loaded magazine containing 16 rounds plus extra ammunition, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Marine One’s liftoff from the White House on Tuesday, August 4, also triggered alarms when the president’s aircraft lifted off while commercial air traffic continued at a nearby airport, violating procedures required for such operations. The White House and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) both stated Trump was never in danger.

Long-Running Fitness Debate

Speculation about Trump’s physical condition has persisted throughout his second term. He has faced repeated scrutiny over chronically bruised hands, swollen ankles, public episodes of drowsiness and occasional mental lapses. The White House has consistently maintained he is in good health.

Because Davidson’s assessment rests solely on video evidence and a publicly disclosed medication, rather than a direct examination, its accuracy remains unverified. No physician with access to the president has endorsed the stroke hypothesis. Yet the pairing of a medical professor’s claim with a governor’s viral attack has thrust the president’s fitness to the forefront of political debate.

Two competing narratives now dominate the conversation. One depicts an aging president slowed by potential illness; the other presents a vigorous leader hounded by critics who, according to the administration, previously shielded a Democratic incumbent from similar scrutiny. What remains undisputed is that the health of the oldest president in American history has become an unavoidable theme of his tenure—one amplified by a brief tarmac encounter and an unconfirmed medical theory.
